About This Role
WestJet Encore is recruiting a First Officer to fly the De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprop from its Calgary (YYC) base. The role operates scheduled passenger service across WestJet Encore's regional network. First Officers deliver safe, efficient flights while providing leadership to the flight crew and acting as a brand ambassador for WestJet's corporate values. The position is Calgary-based and is not eligible for remote work under the company's hybrid work policy.

What We Offer
WestJet Encore runs a Pilot-in-Command Under Supervision (PICUS) program for First Officers who hold a CPL: pilots may accrue up to 200 hours in an Encore aircraft for a maximum credit of 100 hours PICUS toward ATPL requirements, as detailed in CAR 421.11.The company also supports career development, encouraging regular career conversations with leaders and providing resources through its People Portal.
Requirements
- Minimum experience and qualifications: 750 hours total time
- 100 hours fixed-wing pilot-in-command time
- a valid Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating
- a valid Transport Canada Class 1 Medical Certificate
- a Transport Canada Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
- and completion of either the IATRA or both the SAMRA and SARON exams (exams must be valid with expiry extending through to the PPC). A Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) is preferred. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- hold a current valid passport and, if not a Canadian passport holder, a Canadian Permanent Resident Card, plus any visas or travel documents permitting unrestricted travel
- obtain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) prior to completing Initial Ground School
- pass a clear police background and criminal record check
- pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test
- and demonstrate oral and written proficiency in English. Preference is given to candidates who exceed the minimums, including those with over 1,000 hours accumulated flight time, experience with multi-engine and multi-crew operations, previous internal experience as a WestJetter, and graduation from one of WestJet's partnership schools. Candidates will be asked to provide documentation during recruitment, including the Transport Canada Aviation Booklet, logbooks, the Transport Canada licensing record, and a Transport Canada licensing verification letter.
