About This Role
Steel Dynamics, Inc. is seeking a corporate aviation First Officer to support Challenger 3500 operations from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Second-in-Command assists the Pilot-in-Command with safe and efficient flight operations, participates in the company Safety Management System, and is prepared to assume control of the flight if the PIC becomes incapacitated. The aviation team operates a relatively low and predictable annual schedule of approximately 300 to 350 flight hours, although weekly activity can range from little or no flying to 20–30 hours, with most flights planned about a week in advance and rare short-notice callouts.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Second-in-Command reports functionally to the Pilot-in-Command during assigned flights and administratively to the Chief Pilot for other matters.
- The role assists the PIC in conducting flights safely and efficiently, maintains a working knowledge of the PIC’s duties and responsibilities, and assumes PIC duties and control of the flight if the PIC is incapacitated.
- The First Officer also participates in Steel Dynamics’ Safety Management System.

Requirements
- Required qualifications include at least a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings, a First Class FAA Medical Certificate, a valid U.S.
- Passport, and previous jet experience.
- Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a Multi-Engine Rating, and a type rating in the appropriate aircraft.
- A CL30 Type Rating is strongly preferred, along with 3,500 hours of total flight time.
