About This Role
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) is recruiting permanent, full-time pilots for its Aircrew Mentoring Program at Mount Isa Base. The program begins with structured training, mentoring and supervised Beechcraft King Air B200 clinic operations, then provides a pathway toward Aeromedical Pilot duties as experience grows. Pilots work alongside healthcare professionals on aeromedical retrieval and primary healthcare services across Queensland, supporting regional, rural and remote communities; the Queensland fleet comprises 16 King Air B200s, 4 King Air B350CHWs and 5 King Air B360s.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Pilots at the Mount Isa base will operate RFDS aircraft safely in accordance with company procedures and aviation regulations
- prepare aircraft for flight, including refuelling and replenishing oxygen
- support healthcare teams with patient and equipment transfers
- assist with loading and unloading patients, stretchers and medical equipment
- complete operational and regulatory documentation
- maintain operational knowledge, systems and base records
- and contribute to a strong safety and teamwork culture.
What We Offer
The RAMP program provides structured pilot development and mentoring, supervised operational flying, exposure to remote and regional aviation, progression toward Aeromedical Pilot duties, and ongoing training and professional development.The employment package includes a starting salary of $116,289.39 plus superannuation, salary packaging of up to $18,500, six weeks of annual leave, relocation assistance of up to $7,000, temporary accommodation and relocation support, a $300-per-week orientation allowance, a retention bonus after two years, and a remote-area package with rent or mortgage assistance of $465 per week.After 12 months, gratuity and a Remote Area Payment are provided in the stated amounts of $4,688 and $3,923.36.Additional benefits include regional housing and travel assistance, an Employee Assistance Program for staff and families, novated leasing options, private health insurance discounts, Fitness Passport membership, and RemServ Rewards cashback at hundreds of leading retailers.
Requirements
- Candidates must have a minimum of 1,500 hours total flight time, 1000 hours in command, 500 hours as Pilot in Command on multi-engine aircraft, 100 hours as Pilot in Command at night, and 100 hours of instrument time.
- They must hold a current Command Multi-Engine Instrument Rating with a minimum of two subsequent Instrument Proficiency Checks, a current Australian ATPL or CPL, and a current Class 1 Aviation Medical, as well as turbine and night-flying experience.
- The posting also requires strong situational awareness and decision-making, effective multidisciplinary teamwork, physical capacity to assist with patient and equipment handling, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
- Applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents or hold valid working rights.
- Successful applicants must additionally hold a current unrestricted Australian driver's licence, provide evidence of required vaccinations or immunity, obtain an ASIC and Blue Card, complete drug and alcohol testing, and attend a simulator assessment in Bundaberg or on the Sunshine Coast before an offer.
