About This Role
Air Methods Pilots is seeking a fixed-wing pilot for Black Hills Life Flight in Rapid City, operating a PC12 in an IFR air-medical environment. The pilot transports medical crew and patients safely to receiving hospitals within the assigned operational area, maintains compliance with applicable FAA regulations and Air Methods procedures, and supports a 24-hour, 365-day community medical transport mission.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The pilot operates Air Methods aircraft safely and legally, completes a pre-flight inspection before every flight, signs the Daily Flight Log to verify airworthiness, and performs a complete aircraft walk-around before entering the cockpit and after each flight. The pilot has final authority over aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment
- maintains thorough familiarity with the aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft
- and ensures the medical flight team is familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems. Responsibilities also include completing required documentation, conducting detailed flight planning on short notice to exacting standards, participating in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach, maintaining regular attendance on the 7/7 schedule with 12-hour shifts, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements
- Applicants need an associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school together with two to five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- a bachelor's degree is preferred. The pilot must be under 250 pounds and less than 70 years old, must have flown in category within the previous 24 months, and must meet the IFR experience requirements of 2,500 total flight hours, including at least 2,000 hours in category, 1,000 hours PIC in category, 500 hours of cross-country flight time with at least 50 hours at night, 500 hours of turbine time, 100 hours of night flight time, and 100 hours in actual instrument conditions in category. Required credentials include an instrument rating for the applicable category and class, with an ATP rating in category accepted as meeting that requirement, plus a fixed-wing multiengine rating for twin-engine aircraft or a commercial single-engine land certificate for single-engine aircraft. A first- or second-class FAA medical certificate is required.
