About This Role
USA Jet Airlines is hiring a First Officer (Second-in-Command) based in Belleville, Michigan, for its FAR Part 121 on-demand air cargo operation. Operating since 1994 as part of the Ascent Global Logistics Network, USA Jet flies time-critical airlift supporting the supply chains of manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors and Tesla. The First Officer reports administratively to the Chief Pilot and functionally to the assigned Captain, supports the PIC across all phases of flight, and is regarded as a Captain-in-training expected to work toward upgrade. The role carries substantial safety-management and TSA ground-security responsibilities alongside standard co-pilot flight duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The First Officer reports to the Chief Pilot administratively and to the assigned Captain functionally during FAR Part 121 duty periods, and keeps the Pilot-in-Command apprised in all phases of flight per company SOP. At the Captain's discretion the Second-in-Command may file, open or close flight plans
- conduct preflight and post-flight inspections
- verify that required documents, navigational aids, manuals and equipment are on board
- participate in or facilitate the loading and offloading of cargo and/or passengers as applicable
- supervise or complete the securing of cargo, cargo nets and the flight-crew barrier
- ensure carry-on items are properly stowed
- brief couriers or jump-seaters
- and perform ATC communications. The First Officer is considered in training for upgrade to Captain and assists other crewmembers as necessary. The role also executes TSA-mandated ground-security duties including serving as Ground Security Coordinator and meeting aircraft, cargo and passenger security requirements, and ensures all air cargo is accepted, inspected, loaded and secured in accordance with applicable domestic and international regulations and company requirements. The First Officer must actively participate in USA Jet's Safety Programs and Safety Management System, report all safety concerns promptly, ensure that they and their coworkers perform their functions as safely as possible, and follow applicable Occupational Safety and Health standards.

Requirements
- Applicants must hold the appropriate pilot licenses and certificates for the position and must complete all training, checking and qualification requirements defined in USA Jet's approved/accepted manuals.
- Candidates must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
- The First Officer must be knowledgeable of the USA Jet General Operations Manual, the FARs, OpSpecs, the Aircraft Flight Manual and other instructions pertinent to the role, and must ensure they meet flight- and duty-time limitations, are adequately rested and in proper uniform.
- Because the position is treated as a Captain-upgrade track, the successful candidate is expected to take advantage of all Captain instruction and information available.
