About This Role
FlySafair is recruiting a permanent, mid-level First Officer for its JHB listing; the title also identifies DBN, HLA and CPT. The role is responsible for safe, timely and compliant Boeing commercial-jet flight operations, including route and aircraft-system monitoring, navigation, aircraft operation, checks and procedures, checklist execution, instrument cross-checking, communications with the Captain, crew, passengers and service providers, and accurate legal and post-flight reporting. The First Officer supports the Captain and crew, maintains professional standards, customer service, morale and regulatory compliance, and assumes command if the Captain is incapacitated.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The First Officer must ensure safe and timely flight operations, monitor the aircraft flight path and systems, navigate and operate the aircraft, complete checks and procedures before, during and after each flight, communicate with internal departments, external service providers and passengers, comply with SACAA and international aviation laws and FlySafair policies, procedures, Operations Manual and Standard Operating Procedures, uphold excellent customer service, and submit accurate and complete legal and administrative documentation. The officer must remain current with applicable laws and the Operations Manual, carry out aircraft-type-specific procedures, limitations and performance requirements, maintain an independent continuous check of the aircraft's geographical position and terrain clearance, provide the Captain with advice and assistance supporting a safe and efficient flight, and assist with operational and administrative duties, crew discipline, conduct, appearance, professional expertise and morale. If the Captain is incapacitated, the First Officer assumes command, and the Captain may allocate additional duties. Before flight, the First Officer reviews the planned route, briefing sheets, forecasts, destination and alternate aerodrome conditions, and runway states
- completes all required checks and documents
- and collaborates with the Captain on fuel selection, alternates and flight restrictions. In flight, the First Officer performs or monitors normal, abnormal and emergency checklists, cross-checks flight instruments including altitude or height, speed and heading, immediately advises the Captain of flight-path deviations, hazardous situations, abnormal readings, warning lights or indicators, and conducts R/T communications as required. After flight, the First Officer completes all post-flight procedures in accordance with the Operations Manual and FCOM and submits relevant documentation and reports, including IQSMS.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification, an SACAA Commercial licence, and a Class 1 SACAA Medical
- the SACAA ATPL is preferred. Boeing type rating and experience on commercial jets over 20 tons are advantageous. The essential experience condition specifies a non-type-rated or Boeing type-rated candidate with a minimum of 1,500 hours, including 500 hours of multi-turbine time, together with essential multi-crew experience. Candidates must have no existing medical conditions or criminal record, be willing to sign applicable training bonds and undergo a drug-and-alcohol test, have their own transport and an RSA Driver's License, be an SA citizen with proof of identity, and hold a valid RSA Passport. They must be willing to work irregular hours on a roster and have detailed knowledge and understanding of national aviation regulations such as SACAA and ICAO, essential knowledge of Doc 8186, and knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilots licensing content.
