About This Role
Republic Airways Inc. is seeking a First Officer in Carmel, Indiana, to support the Captain in the safe, compliant, and timely operation of commercial airline flights. The role includes flight planning, weather and fuel assessment, aircraft airworthiness checks, preflight inspections, aircraft operation, load documentation, and coordination of passengers, baggage, cargo, crew, dispatch, and air traffic control. The First Officer must maintain professional standards, complete continuing training, respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, and be willing to work extensive travel, variable schedules, extended duty periods, and relocation based on operational needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The First Officer supports the Captain by ensuring safe and timely piloting of the aircraft and performing aircraft-management duties. Responsibilities include planning each flight with applicable weather information and reports in accordance with Company procedures and Federal Aviation Regulations

- and ensuring, together with the Captain, that the flight is properly planned and fueled. The First Officer safely and effectively operates the aircraft during the assigned duty period under the Captain's instruction and in compliance with applicable regulations, manuals, policies, and procedures. The role requires maintaining thorough knowledge of the aircraft equipment and governing regulations, notifying the crew and passengers about turbulence and other operational factors, and completing the load manifest for every flight. The First Officer assists the Captain with report times, departure times, and minimum turn times to support reliable and punctual operations. At the terminal, the First Officer assists with the proper handling of the aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo. Additional responsibilities include maintaining regular and reliable attendance, presenting a professional appearance, following the Company uniform dress code and Rules of Conduct, continuing professional training to improve performance and abilities, supporting Republic Airways' core values and culture, and carrying out other duties assigned by the Company or Captain.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and meet the current FAA and Company minimum age and flight-hour requirements for interview and hiring. The posting requires meeting the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate
- an ATP written examination is preferred. Candidates should preferably have prior customer-service experience, especially in an aviation environment. Regulatory requirements include passing an FAA-required 10-year employment-history review, criminal background and fingerprint checks, and FAA- and Company-mandated drug and alcohol testing. Applicants must possess and maintain a valid US passport or foreign passport, be legally authorized to work in the United States, and be able to travel into and out of the country. Candidates must be able to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and government regulations quickly, communicate effectively with management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public, and speak and be understood in English, including shouted emergency commands. The role requires practical problem-solving, the ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions, and the ability to remain calm and react quickly during medical emergencies, decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, and other abnormal situations. Applicants must be capable of making sound decisions under pressure, controlling emotional responses, and accepting potential safety-of-flight consequences. Physical requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, sitting for long periods, operating emergency equipment and exits with up to 70 pounds of force, moving a flight bag weighing up to 40 pounds, lifting carry-on luggage of up to 35 pounds above the shoulders, meeting FAA visual and hearing standards, moving freely and quickly in the confined aircraft environment, and sitting in a pilot or jump seat with the required restraints fastened. The successful candidate must tolerate moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather on the flight line and in open-air hangars, loud noise, extended duty periods on consecutive days, early mornings, nights, overnights, weekends, temperature and climate changes, and travel of up to 100 percent, including holidays and overnight stays. The position also requires readiness to report with little notice and willingness to relocate according to Company operational needs.
