About This Role
First Officer position with Quest Diagnostics' flight operation, supporting the transport of medical specimens throughout the Quest Diagnostics system aboard company aircraft. The First Officer assists the Captain across all phases of flight — preflight, enroute and post-flight — and helps with all specimen transfers, including loading and unloading the aircraft in line with Flight Operations policies and the aircraft's approved flight manual. The role is a development track: the First Officer is expected to keep growing in flight skill and specimen management with the aim of eventually transitioning into a Captain position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Captain in all areas while transporting medical specimens throughout the Quest Diagnostics system in company aircraft, supporting preflight, enroute and post-flight segments.
- Help the Captain with all specimen transfers, including loading and unloading the aircraft in accordance with Flight Operations policies and the aircraft's approved flight manual.
- Maintain personal knowledge of the FOM, AFM and government regulations (FAA Parts 91, 67 and 61, and the AIM) and other air transportation policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of safety readiness and professional skill.
- Assist the Captain of the assigned flight in preparing and executing safe, efficient ground and flight operations.
- Function as the primary safety monitor of the flight and be prepared to assume the duties of pilot-in-command if the Captain becomes incapacitated.
- Maintain a service-oriented attitude toward customer needs, comfort and safety, and a positive, team-oriented relationship with Flight Operations colleagues.
- Assist with Route Service Coordinator duties as needed, and continue to develop flight skill and specimen management to eventually transition into a Captain position.
Requirements
- Required work experience: a minimum of 250 hours total flight time.
- Preferred work experience: 25 hours of multi-engine time.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Licenses and certifications: a Commercial pilot licence covering multi-engine and single-engine aircraft with an instrument rating (required).
- Physical and mental requirements: must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and able to sit for long periods.
- The pilot must maintain personal knowledge of the FOM, AFM, government regulations (FAA Parts 91, 67 and 61, and the AIM) and other air transportation policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of safety readiness and professional skill.
