About This Role
California Aeronautical University is recruiting a part-time, temporary reserve flight instructor in San Diego. The CFI Reserve provides flight, simulator, and ground instruction under FAA regulations and University standards, supporting student progress, safe training, accurate documentation, and Flight Operations' operational needs. This is an as-needed position with no guaranteed hours, shifts, or ongoing work; scheduling depends on operational needs and student demand. The stated pay is USD 28 per hour.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with approved curricula and lesson objectives. Evaluate student performance, provide timely feedback, motivate students to achieve training goals, and prepare them for stage checks, practical examinations, and certification milestones. Maintain accurate training records, lesson documentation, endorsements, and reports
- enter lesson notes and training progress in approved University systems
- and report and manage student attendance. Promote a culture of safety throughout training and report safety concerns through the University's Safety Management System. Ensure campus files, documents, and reports are complete, accurate, and secure, and maintain complete and accurate timekeeping. Attend required meetings, training events, and standardization activities, support Flight Operations' operational needs, uphold the University's mission, foster a positive and progressive attitude among employees, and perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold a valid FAA Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) Certificate and a current FAA Medical Certificate as required for instructional duties. A flight instructor certificate is also the stated education and/or experience requirement. Instructors must maintain all required certificates, ratings, medical qualifications, instructor currency, and FAA and University qualifications, and demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development within Flight Operations. They must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
