About This Role
Sun Country Airlines is hiring a Minneapolis-based Non-Seniority List Instructor (NSLI) contractor to deliver task-based and line-oriented training to airline line pilots in Full Flight Simulators and Flight Training Devices. The instructor will teach flight procedures and techniques, prepare pilots for validations and evaluations, support Sun Country's Qualification and Continuing Qualification curricula, and train and evaluate performance during normal and non-normal flight situations. The position is full-time, onsite in Minneapolis, and operates as a 1099 contractor role.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and certify completion of modules within the flight-training segment of Sun Country's Qualification and Continuing Qualification curricula.
- Develop module outlines, study materials, and instructional techniques based on the curriculum and pilot needs.
- Teach the responsibilities of airline pilots, including Pilot in Command and Second in Command duties, professionalism, leadership, decision-making, Crew Resource Management, Threat and Error Management, company policies, and available resources.
- Solicit honest attendee feedback through course critiques, deliver organized briefings, and lead substantive interactive discussions.
- Follow approved curricula and allotted instructional time, manage classroom and training resources, and set up and break down presentations, manuals, whiteboards, and handouts.
- Train and evaluate pilot performance in all phases of flight during normal and non-normal situations, observe pilots' actions and reactions to confirm that classroom and pre-briefing instruction are integrated, and provide a thorough developmental debrief after each module.
- The instructor is also expected to embrace diverse people, thinking, and styles and to make the safety and security of self and others the priority.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a minimum of 3,000 total flight hours and 1,000 hours as Pilot in Command, and must have served as a Captain at a 14 CFR Part 121 certified air carrier. The role requires familiarity with the technology used to access instructor syllabi, briefing materials, navigational charts, operating manuals, bulletins, turbulence charts, company information, and schedules through an Apple iPad, internet or cellular data connections, email, and PowerPoint. The NSLI is subject to initial, periodic, and random performance reviews as both a pilot and an instructor during Initial and Continuing Qualification training, and the position is safety-sensitive. Preferred qualifications include a B737 type rating and line-pilot experience, plus recent experience within the previous 24 months as a Simulator Instructor, Simulator Check Airman, or Aircrew Program Designee at a 14 CFR Part 121 certified air carrier.
