About This Role
Tropic Ocean Airways, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida seaplane operator, is hiring a Second in Command (SIC) to fly the co-pilot seat on its scheduled and charter passenger and freight flights. Reporting to the Pilot Manager, the SIC follows the company's Standard Operating Procedures to plan, communicate and process the information needed to operate the published flight schedule safely, on time and to a high standard of customer satisfaction, flying in day, night and instrument conditions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Meet or exceed SIC duties and expectations while showing initiative, adhering to Tropic Ocean Airways SOPs and aligning with the organisation's core values.
- Be familiar with and follow the instructions relevant to the duty position in the company General Operations Manual, operations bulletins and other pertinent instructions, and operate the aircraft in accordance with all applicable regulations and corporate policies and procedures.
- Ensure you are legally and adequately rested for each assigned flight, complete preflight preparation so the aircraft and load are ready for departure 15 minutes before scheduled time, complete all checklists, and make all standard radio contacts and position reports when flying.
- Report to work at least one hour before departure for each scheduled and charter flight, complete training as assigned by management, and perform other duties as directed by the Chief Pilot.
- Assist with escorting, enplaning and deplaning passengers during boarding, and help load and unload freight.
- Note and communicate any aircraft deficiencies for maintenance review and correction, emphasise flight crew safety and exemplary customer service, foster a pilot culture of continuous improvement, maintain professional communication skills for complex internal and external aircraft communications, perform flights in day, night and instrument conditions, and be available for normal duty assignments and occasional additional work as operationally required.
Requirements
- Required (Essential Skill Set — pilot qualifications and aircraft systems knowledge): FAA Commercial pilot certificate with Airplane Single-Engine Land (ASEL) rating, Instrument Rating and High-Performance endorsement
- FAA Commercial Airplane Single-Engine Sea (ASES) rating
- 250 hours total flight time
- Second-Class Medical Certificate
- a valid US Passport or Green Card
- and an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit. Overnight availability may be required, and the role requires the ability to lift 50 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods, and climb stairs throughout the day
Preferred Qualifications
- Garmin G1000 experience, turbine time, Cessna 208 experience and seaplane experience.
