About This Role
Cymstar is hiring a full-time Pilot Instructor at JBSA San Antonio to provide aircraft-systems and operational-procedures instruction in aircraft, classrooms, simulators, and other practical training environments. The instructor will support development of new C-5/C-5M course curricula, review and update lessons, deliver specialized Visual Threat Recognition Avoidance Training (VTRAT), Crew Resource Management (CRM), and Instrument Refresher Course (IRC) training, and evaluate and remediate student and instructor performance. The position also includes maintaining aircrew training-device proficiency, supporting safety and quality activities, completing recurring Government testing and device flight evaluations, and performing training-program administration.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The instructor provides pilot-procedures instruction in aircraft, classrooms, simulators, and other platform environments, including VTRAT, CRM, and IRC training. Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and critiquing student performance
- identifying unmet objectives and learning difficulties
- prescribing and conducting remedial instruction
- conducting ground training for other crewmembers
- developing curricula for new type courses
- reviewing existing lessons and lesson changes
- and recommending improvements to training policies and procedures. The role includes assisting with project and development work, promoting a positive attitude toward learning and new technologies, evaluating instructors when required, and maintaining proficiency in essential Aircrew Training Devices and simulated instrument, take-off, landing, and emergency procedures. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling, record keeping, monitoring student progress, gradebook entries, counseling, quality assurance, safety, security, and maintenance of training programs and equipment. The instructor must perform biennial observation flights in MEP status when required, ensure compliance with AETCI 36-2909, pass periodic annual tests and Government evaluations, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Applicants must meet one of two experience pathways: either be previously qualified as a C-5 AMP/C-5M aircraft commander with 1000 hours of C-5 flight experience and be a graduate of a formal instructor course, or be a prior C-5 instructor pilot with 200 hours of instructor experience.
- Aerial Refueling instructors must have previous C-5 AR instructor qualification.
- The position requires professional reading, analysis, communication, presentation, basic mathematical, computer, and problem-solving abilities, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, and databases.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret Level Clearance are required, along with an FAA medical Certificate Second Class.
- Candidates must be able to enter and exit aircraft and simulators under government regulations and OSHA standards, stand to conduct academic instruction for up to six hours per day, and meet lifting requirements of up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required.
- The role may require holidays, weekends, and odd shifts, as well as annual testing, Government open- and closed-book examinations, flight evaluations on a training device, and compliance with company policies, quality standards, professional-conduct requirements, and supervisory directions.
