About This Role
FlightSafety International is hiring a Pilot Instructor at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (McChord Field), Washington to deliver ground-based training to military transport/tanker aircrew within an established Training System (TS) curriculum. The instructor conducts initial, upgrade, requalification, and refresher training across classroom sessions, pilot and boom-operator part-task trainers, a boom operator trainer, a fuselage trainer, the weapon system trainer (WST simulator), and the aircraft, and serves as a pilot subject-matter expert. The role suits an experienced military pilot with a C-17 air-drop and aerial-refueling background who also holds flight-instructor experience, can hold an active SECRET security clearance, and qualifies as a U.S. Person for export-control purposes. This is an instructional position rather than a line-flying job; candidates are selected on military flying and instructor experience rather than a civil pilot licence.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct all initial, upgrade, requalification, and refresher training using devices such as a classroom, Pilot Part Task Trainer (PTTP), Boom Operator Part Task Trainer (PTTB), Boom Operator Trainer (BOT), Fuselage Trainer (FuT), Weapon System Trainer (WST), and the KC-46 aircraft. Conduct other ground-based training for aircrew members in tanker and receiver operating procedures, including diagnosis and remediation of student problems. Conduct initial and recurring training for maintenance personnel attending Engine Run courses. Conduct briefings, debriefings, and counseling with aircrew and maintenance personnel to develop and maintain the highest level of student technical acumen and proficiency. Extract student data, analyze results, and prepare for student review sessions. Serve as the KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students and other applicable personnel. - develop and maintain deep knowledge of the aircraft's systems and operating procedures
- consistently apply instructional principles and theories for aircrew training systems
- provide inputs for courseware corrections and updates to training policies and procedures
- operate the Student Management System
- and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required. Minimum experience: eight years of flying experience, five of which as a C-17 pilot with air-drop and aerial-refueling experience, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver
- plus two years or 200 hours of flight-instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics. Recent C-17 flight-simulator pilot-instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are desired. Candidates must read, write, speak, and understand English fluently, relay information clearly in writing and verbally, and effectively present information and respond to customer questions, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories for training systems and of personal computers and office software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases) is required, along with the ability to pass annual internal standardization evaluations. An active SECRET security clearance is required. Any offer is contingent on OFAC/sanctions compliance and, given ITAR/EAR export-control exposure, on qualifying as a 'U.S. Person' (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or certain protected refugees/asylees) or otherwise obtaining export authorization, and on eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
