About This Role
The Pilot Instructor provides ground-based training for C-17 pilots in the established Training System curriculum, using the Weapon System Trainer, C-17 aircraft, computer-based trainers, and other ground-training devices. The role covers air-drop and aerial-refueling/transport instruction, student briefings and debriefings, progress monitoring and remediation, training administration, simulator and standardization work, and assigned safety, security, HAZMAT, and travel duties. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree, eight years of flying experience including five years as a C-17 pilot or an AMC/A3TK waiver, flight instructor experience, and an active SECRET Security Clearance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts training using the Weapon System Trainer, C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers, and other ground-training devices for C-17 Training System pilots in air drop and aerial refueling or transport procedures, including diagnosis and remediation of student problems. Conducts briefings and debriefings; counsels pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel; maintains training records and student progress; updates courseware and training policies. Flies the WST as required to maintain instructional expertise and flies on the airplane as required in observer status to maintain currency. Serves as C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert, Flight Check Airman, CCAF Evaluator, and performs SIMCERT or SIMVAL duties when assigned. Supports safety, security, HAZMAT, Learning Center, conference, curriculum-review, and travel duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum Experience: Eight years flying experience, five years of which as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience, or able to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver. Two years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics. Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification desired. Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to clearly relay information, both verbally and written, and effectively present information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of instructional principles, computer applications, and training-system procedures. Successfully accomplish annual internal standardization evaluations. Possess an active SECRET Security Clearance. Physical demands include regular simulator and aircraft ingress/egress, work in variable conditions, and occasional lifting.
