About This Role
Sierra Nevada Corporation is seeking a deployed-only Pilot in Shalimar, Florida, to operate advanced aircraft and cutting-edge equipment in highly challenging operational environments in support of national defense and military objectives. Missions include casualty evacuation, maritime patrol, experimental test flights, special-mission training, and fighter-aircraft training, with the pilot contributing expert flight operations, aviation safety, and mission success. The role sits in SNC's ISR, Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area, which supports manned and unmanned ISR and aviation systems through design, integration, testing, certification, training, and logistics. The position requires OCONUS deployment on an approximate 60/30 rotation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate and navigate a variety of aircraft in complex and diverse operational scenarios. Conduct pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections to verify aircraft safety and functionality. Perform casualty evacuation, maritime patrol, experimental test flights, special mission training, fighter aircraft training, and other missions. Maintain accurate and detailed flight logs and mission reports
- coordinate with ground crew and other personnel for mission planning and execution
- monitor and assess weather conditions and other variables and adjust flight plans accordingly
- and ensure compliance with aviation regulations and organizational standards. Participate in regular training and drills to maintain readiness and proficiency, mentor and train junior pilots when needed, and execute emergency procedures and protocols effectively.

Requirements
- Mandatory qualifications include 4+ years of experience
- a minimum of 1,500 hours of total flight time
- strong knowledge of aviation safety regulations and procedures
- a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with instrument and multi-engine rating without limitations
- an FAA-issued Class II Medical Certificate
- and the ability to pass the FAA/Military Pilot Background Check and mandatory drug and alcohol screen. Applicants must also have at least 1,500 hours of total fixed-wing PIC time in a multi-engine turboprop, jet aircraft, or combination thereof, in aircraft with GTOW 12,500 or greater
- meet current DoD and Combatant Command requirements for deployed locations
- pass a pre-deployment medical assessment
- hold a current/valid U.S. passport and be able to obtain a visa for international travel
- and be able to deploy OCONUS for extended periods, work extended hours, holidays, and shifts, and support an approximate 60/30 rotation. Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities and extensive knowledge of advanced aviation systems and regulations are required. An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required on day one
- SNC states that applicants without a current clearance may apply and will be processed for one before employment, with employment beginning once the clearance is granted. U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance, and non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible. Preferred qualifications include military flight training, ISR, Dash 8, OCONUS, and combat or operational mission leadership experience
- ATP certification
- advanced aviation or aerospace degrees
- experience with experimental and advanced aircraft systems
- a related bachelor's degree
- recent mission completion and/or prior service
- and U.S. military survival or physiological training. For this posting, PIC means Captain/Aircraft Commander of record rather than simply the sole manipulator of the controls. Only fixed-wing pilot time counts toward the minimum
- simulator, helicopter, flight engineer, bombardier, navigator, RIO, EWO, WSO, NFO, and Special Crew time is excluded. Applicants should list hours per airframe, and candidates with only rotary-wing or single-engine time will not be considered.
