About This Role
Bish’s RV is hiring a Lead Captain to fly the Challenger 604 and lead its corporate aviation department from the KBOI/Boise base in a Part 91 environment. The role owns safety, dispatch reliability, aircraft readiness, FAA and company compliance, maintenance coordination, scheduling and travel logistics, vendor relationships, budget and cost control, crew development, and passenger experience. The Captain is expected to make independent, safety-first decisions while maximizing aircraft availability and completing company travel reliably and cost-effectively, without allowing schedule, cost, or passenger pressure to compromise safety. This is a hands-on aviation leadership role for an experienced aviator, practical financial operator, and trusted adviser to company leadership.
Duties & Responsibilities
- As Lead Captain, the role establishes and protects a safety-first culture, using independent judgment about weather, aircraft condition, crew readiness, airport suitability, and operational risk. It ensures each flight complies with FAA Part 91 regulations, company procedures, aircraft limitations, and accepted industry practices
- maintains current SOPs, checklists, risk-assessment tools, emergency-response plans, and safety documentation
- promotes open cockpit communication and Crew Resource Management
- leads safety discussions and operational reviews
- incorporates appropriate Safety Management System principles
- and reports safety concerns, significant maintenance issues, and operational risks to company leadership. It verifies that pilots remain properly trained, qualified, medically certified, and current, while developing a department culture based on Bish’s RV’s Genuine, Fun, and Driven by Results values. The manager keeps the Challenger 604 mission-ready by coordinating inspections, scheduled maintenance, discrepancies, parts availability, vendor capacity, and maintenance timing
- identifying developing concerns before they cause downtime
- and preparing contingency plans for weather, maintenance, crew availability, and other interruptions. The role coordinates directly with executive leadership on company travel and arranges fuel, ground handling, customs and permits, catering, rental vehicles, ground transportation, and contract-crew support. It anticipates problems, develops backup plans, and communicates schedule changes, aircraft availability, risks, and disruptions promptly to passengers, crew, leadership, and service providers. The role owns cost-conscious flight-department operations by evaluating fuel pricing and stops, handling and airport fees, repositioning, crew expenses, passenger transportation, and maintenance consequences
- obtaining competitive bids
- reviewing invoices and challenging inappropriate or unnecessary charges
- negotiating pricing and service arrangements
- tracking operating expenses and meaningful cost trends
- assisting with the annual aviation operating budget
- reviewing fuel, maintenance, training, subscription, FBO, hangar, contract-pilot, and trip-related costs
- explaining significant variances
- and maintaining purchasing and expense-approval controls. It seeks safe savings through preferred pricing, fuel programs, maintenance programs, training efficiencies, and vendor consolidation, evaluating providers on safety, quality, reliability, responsiveness, cost, and overall value rather than simply choosing the lowest initial price. As department leader, the Captain sets standards for professionalism, accountability, communication, aircraft care, and passenger service
- leads with humility, maturity, and a team-first mindset
- mentors the Second-in-Command and other crew members
- provides clear and constructive feedback
- promotes crew development
- and builds depth within the department so operations do not depend entirely on one individual. The role provides safe, reliable, discreet, and professional executive travel, protects confidential company and passenger information, keeps the cabin clean, organized, stocked, and prepared for each mission, coordinates special requests, catering, and ground transportation, maintains a calm and polished presence during changing circumstances, and represents Bish’s RV professionally with passengers, vendors, airports, and the aviation community. Success is reflected in an uncompromising safety culture, consistent aircraft availability, fewer preventable cancellations and maintenance disruptions, proactive maintenance, financially responsible trip planning, clear leadership visibility into aircraft status and costs, professional development of the Second-in-Command, and a seamless passenger experience.
