About This Role
Jet Aviation Staffing is seeking a Chief Pilot in Uvalde, Texas on behalf of an external client. The successful candidate will lead and oversee flight-operations personnel and training programs for a company operating under an Air Carrier Certificate, while regularly serving as a line pilot and PIC on assigned scheduled or charter flights. The role oversees Part 135 and Part 91 operations, operational control, training, fleet and crew standardization, FAA compliance, SMS and safety-risk management, and personnel welfare and development, working with operations, maintenance, safety and executive leadership. The posting requires a Citation XLS or CE-525 type rating, an ATP, a current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate, and more than 7,500 hours of total time plus Aspen flying experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Flight-operations leadership includes organizing, staffing, supervising and directing all company flight operations, including Part 135 and Part 91 activity
- leading and overseeing flight-department personnel
- flying regularly as a line pilot while handling Chief Pilot administration
- serving as PIC on assigned scheduled and/or charter flights
- exercising limited operational-control authority under the Air Carrier Certificate when authorized by the Director of Operations
- managing functions affecting operational control and flight safety
- and promoting professionalism, accountability, safety and operational excellence. The Chief Pilot must organize, administer and oversee all pilot training, including initial, recurrent, upgrade, differences and special-emphasis training
- maintain qualification, certification and training records
- monitor proficiency and operational performance
- ensure crew qualifications and currency
- and conduct or oversee line checks, standardization evaluations and operational observations. The role actively supports the SMS by ensuring participation in safety reporting, validating, investigating and addressing safety risks and deficiencies, embedding identified risk mitigations in operational processes, attending Safety Review Board meetings and safety committees, promoting a Just Culture, and analyzing safety reports, operational data and trends. Responsibilities also include developing and maintaining aircraft checklists and SOPs
- enforcing the GOM, Training Manuals, SOPs and company policies
- standardizing practices across aircraft types and crews
- reviewing and improving operations
- keeping crews current on regulatory and procedural changes
- maintaining FAA and Air Carrier Operations Specifications compliance
- preparing for FAA inspections, audits and regulatory reviews
- supporting WYVERN Wingman, IS-BAO and ARGUS accreditation where applicable
- and ensuring corrective actions are completed on schedule. The Chief Pilot reviews and acts on aeronautical information, distributes operational and safety information, communicates changes to regulations, procedures, manuals, notices and policies, and liaises with vendors, training providers, regulators and relevant organizations. The position provides mentorship and professional development, oversees welfare, performance and conduct, participates in hiring, onboarding, evaluations, disciplinary actions and retention initiatives, supports succession planning and pilot development, and collaborates with the Director of Operations, Director of Maintenance, Safety Manager and executive leadership. It requires regular interaction with crews, maintenance personnel, schedulers, regulators, auditors, customers and leadership, plus flexibility to support operational and safety matters beyond normal business hours.
Requirements
- meet all FAA qualifications for Chief Pilot under 14 CFR Part 119
- hold a valid ATP certificate for the category of aircraft operated by the company
- hold a Citation XLS or CE-525 type rating and operational experience
- hold a current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate
- and be qualified under the company's approved training program to serve as Pilot-in-Command on at least one company aircraft. More than 7,500 hours of total time and Aspen flying experience are required. The candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of the Company General Operations Manual, Training Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures, FAA Parts 91, 119 and 135, Safety Management Systems, operational control principles and Crew Resource Management, along with demonstrated leadership, communication and organizational skills and strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Jet Insight experience is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include previous FAA-approved Chief Pilot experience
- experience with WYVERN Wingman, IS-BAO and Safety Management Systems
- experience conducting pilot evaluations, line checks and standardization programs
- a bachelor's degree in aviation, business, management or a related field
- and CFI, CFII and MEI credentials. The role requires the ability to perform duties as a required flight crewmember, maintain FAA medical certification, travel as needed, sit, stand, walk and climb aircraft stairs in airport and aviation environments, and respond to operational matters outside normal business hours.
