About This Role
Jazz Direct is Jazz Aviation's education and training pathway for aviation students in Canada. Students from affiliated colleges, universities and flight schools are considered after completing their flight training and graduating from their program. Selected pilots can progress directly toward flying Jazz aircraft from an integrated ATPL program, or through an alternative route requiring at least 250 hours of total flying time, a commercial pilot licence, multi-IFR qualification and successful completion of the IATRA exam. Jazz operates regional jets and turboprops across North America under the Air Canada Express brand and describes its pilots as the preferred source of pilots for Air Canada.
Duties & Responsibilities
- This is a pilot-student pathway into First Officer flying rather than a conventional line-vacancy duty list.
- After completing flight training and graduating from an affiliated institution, selected pilots will be qualified to fly Jazz aircraft directly from an integrated ATPL program or through the stated commercial-pilot route.
- Jazz operates a fleet of regional jets and turboprops across North America under the Air Canada Express brand, providing pilots with regional-airline skills and experience, and identifies Jazz pilots as the preferred source of pilots for Air Canada.

Requirements
- Applicants must hold a valid and current Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating and meet the current instrument-recurrency requirements, as well as hold a valid Transport Canada Class 1 Medical.
- They must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card, hold a current passport with at least six months of validity at the time of hire, and be either a Canadian citizen or an unrestricted Canadian permanent resident.
- Permanent residents must be able to obtain and maintain the crew visa documentation needed to operate aircraft in the United States, and all applicants must be legally able to enter the United States without restrictions.
- Applicants must meet Transport Canada's English-proficiency standard and be licensed by Transport Canada to act as a First Officer on a 705-category aircraft, with written IATRA or a Frozen ATPL.
- They must achieve at least 80% on the written CPL, INRAT and IATRA examinations, including the SARON/SAMRA examinations, rank at or above average in all aviation-program academic courses, and have no failures on Transport Canada flight tests or aviation-program check rides, although a partial pass is allowed.
- A faculty recommendation, either verbal or written directly from the institution or program, is required, along with a demonstrated high level of professionalism.
- The applicant must also be a student in good standing at one of the listed affiliated institutions: BCIT, Brampton Flight Centre, Cégep de Chicoutimi, Collège Air Richelieu, Conestoga College, Confederation College, Mount Royal University, Okanagan College, Sault College, Seneca Polytechnic, the University of Waterloo, Western University or Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre.
- The Jazz Direct route also allows selection directly from an integrated ATPL program or through the stated 250-hour CPL, multi-IFR and IATRA pathway.
