About This Role
Metrea Aerial Effects LLC (MAFF) is seeking a Head of Crew Training for their aerial firefighting operations using DHC-8 aircraft. This senior leadership role is equivalent to an FAA Assistant Chief Pilot or EASA nominated person for crew training, responsible for training, qualification, and competency of all flight crews. The ideal candidate brings extensive multi-engine aerial firefighting experience, particularly in retardant application missions, with a minimum of 300 hours in this role. This full-time position offers the opportunity to design comprehensive training programs, manage flight operations, and mentor experienced crews in a dynamic defense and national security organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure all flight crew members are properly trained and qualified to perform duties safely and efficiently
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs for pilots and flight crew including initial, recurrent, and specialized training
- Ensure training programs comply with aviation regulations and standards set by applicable aviation authorities
- Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of training programs through regular assessments and audits
- Recruit, train, and supervise flight instructors ensuring they are well-qualified and current
- Manage training resources including simulators, training aircraft, and other equipment
- Implement SMS and risk management practices within training programs
- Perform as check pilot during training and line flying sorties
- Serve as essential crewmember on aerial firefighting operations
- Assist with expanding and enhancing DHC-8 AFF program including new technologies and capabilities
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies to maintain compliance with FAA/EASA standards
- Provide mentorship and guidance to deputy pilots and experienced AFF crews
- Demonstrate exceptional communication skills and collaborate in fast-paced environment

Requirements
- Extensive flying experience with multi-engine aircraft in aerial firefighting capacity (minimum 300 hours)
- Minimum 200 hours in water or retardant application missions
- FAA or EASA license required
- DHC-8-400 AFF experience preferred; current DHC-8 300 line training captain highly desired
- Previous experience in another AFF aircraft type (CL415, C-130, Bae-146/RJ) combined with DHC-8 experience considered
- Assistant Chief Pilot or Training Pilot position experience (three of last six years) in organization with at least ten pilots highly desirable
- 5 years relevant work experience, with at least 2 years from aeronautical industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures
- Familiarity with aviation management structures
- Appropriate management experience preferably in comparable organization
- Capable of receiving Canadian Foreign License Validation Certificate
- Exceptional English proficiency (spoken and written)
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environment with limited supervision
- Willingness for extensive domestic and international travel
