About This Role
Saint Louis University is seeking a PRN Flight Instructor to provide quality flight instruction within its professional pilot programs. Under general direction, the instructor teaches scheduled flight lessons, maintains proficiency in each course and aircraft or instructional equipment used, completes required endorsements and training records, participates in standardization and stage-check processes, follows FAA regulations and departmental procedures, and contributes to improved teaching techniques and departmental activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct quality flight instruction for Saint Louis University's professional pilot programs.
- Participate in standardization training for each course taught and each piece of equipment used, maintain flight proficiency for every instructed course, comply with FAA regulations and departmental policies and procedures, and research new and improved teaching techniques.
- Meet each student according to the published schedule and ensure flight lessons are completed in accordance with the Training Course Outline.
- Make all appropriate endorsements in the student's flight book and personal logbook.
- Submit stage-check requests to the Office Supervisor after each stage of training is complete, confirming that all lessons and flight books are finished first.
- Conduct training activities, flights, and briefings during normal business hours.
- Pull aircraft in and out of the hangar, assist with tying down aircraft, participate in departmental activities and meetings, and perform other assigned duties.
What We Offer
The PRN Flight Instructor pay rate is $30 per hour.The position also includes a 403(b) retirement savings plan with no employer match.
Requirements
- A Certified Flight Instructor – Airplane (CFI) certificate and a valid medical certificate are required.
- A CFII/MEI certificate and a bachelor's degree are preferred.
- Candidates should have instructor certification appropriate to the position, knowledge of flight-instruction instrumentation and equipment, interpersonal and human-relations skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to instruct, teach, and tutor.
- The role also requires analytical problem-solving, logical and methodical reasoning, the ability to perform under stressful circumstances, and close attention to detail.
