About This Role
The University of Oklahoma is hiring a senior certificated Flight Instructor III in Oklahoma City for its flight-training program. The role provides high-quality ground and flight instruction under 14 CFR Parts 141 and 61 for Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, CFI, and additional aircraft-rating courses, while evaluating proficiency, maintaining records, mentoring junior instructors, and supporting curriculum development, standardization, and aviation safety. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; travel may be required; the targeted salary is $64,480 annually based on experience; and the position is benefits-eligible and contingent on a background check.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced flight instruction, aviation training device (simulator) instruction, and classroom instruction in accordance with FAA procedures and practices and FAA-approved Training Course Outlines. Conduct training for Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, CFI, and additional aircraft-rating courses

- and assess readiness for stage checks, check rides, and certification requirements, including through pre-flight and post-flight briefings and debriefings. Prepare schedules, maintain course and student records including student logbooks and computer records, ensure that course objectives, standards, and minimum requirements are met, coordinate make-up lessons for missed sessions, and accommodate additional student availability as needed. Perform certificated flight-instructor duties authorized by the FAA, promote and instill a strong safety culture by following prescribed policies and procedures, report safety concerns to supervisory personnel, and file safety reports when necessary. Mentor junior instructors, provide leadership within the flight-training program, support curriculum development and standardization, coordinate with the Chief Flight Instructor, Training Manager, and other stakeholders on student progression and program performance, and perform other duties as needed.

Requirements
- Required education and experience are a bachelor's degree and two years of experience in aviation or military flight operations, including a minimum of 50 hours of instructor time and 750 hours of Pilot-in-Command time. Required certifications and licenses include a Class II or Class I FAA medical, Commercial Airplane and Instrument qualifications, an FAA Certified Flight Instructor certificate, and single-engine, multi-engine, and instrument-airplane ratings. The instructor should have strong knowledge of FAA regulations under 14 CFR and aeronautical decision-making principles, strong adherence to operational standards, the ability to interpret complex written materials such as technical manuals, blueprints, and performance metrics, initiative and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to supervise staff and students while clearly communicating expectations, instructions, and performance standards.
