About This Role
The University of Oklahoma is seeking a dedicated, safety-focused Flight Instructor I in Norman to provide FAA-approved flight and ground training to university students. The instructor will follow established syllabi, ensure students meet regulatory and performance standards, conduct stage checks and check rides, administer ground tests, and provide ground school instruction as needed. The position also supports training coordination and scheduling, dispatch functions, faculty and staff transportation flights, aviation-program recruitment, course and training-material development, and basic preventive maintenance of the university's aircraft fleet. The targeted salary is $22.00-$25.00 per hour based on experience, the position is not benefits eligible, and the work schedule varies Monday through Friday from 0700 to 2230 with nights and weekends included.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality aviation training to university students by administering FAA-approved flight and ground instruction in accordance with established syllabi and ensuring students meet all regulatory and performance standards.
- Conduct stage checks and check rides in compliance with FAA guidelines, administer required ground tests, and provide ground school instruction as needed.
- Coordinate and schedule training activities, support daily flight operations through dispatch functions, and operate faculty and staff transportation flights (FAST flights).
- Contribute to the advancement of the aviation program by assisting with recruitment and promotional efforts, developing new courses and training materials, and supporting basic preventive maintenance of the university's aircraft fleet.

Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required, or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience.
- Required credentials include an FAA Certified Flight Instructor License, an FAA Class II medical that must be maintained, and a valid driver's license.
- Candidates must be able to work with flight students one-on-one and in a classroom setting, administer flight instruction, and lift up to 45 pounds.
- Hiring is contingent upon a background check and a driver's-license check.
- Finalists selected for a position supporting the Norman Campus are subject to the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus Tuberculosis Testing policy.
- Travel is not required.
