About This Role
BAE Systems is recruiting an F-35 Lightning II Simulator Instructor Pilot for the state-of-the-art Integrated Training Centre at RAF Marham. The role delivers high-quality synthetic and academic training to all UK F-35 Lightning II pilots, including Lightning ground-school lectures and FAM-phase simulator sorties that enable progress from zero-to-solo on the Operational Conversion Unit syllabus. It combines objective pilot-performance assessment and remedial-training design with Instructor Operator Station operation, frontline tactics and doctrine, subject-matter-expert ownership of aircraft-system instructional material, and high-fidelity Full Mission Simulator and Deployable Mission Rehearsal Trainer training in the UK and on deployed operations. The instructor contributes to the UK sovereign training system and can progress through training-delivery levels toward QSFI and Basic and Advanced QCIP qualifications based on experience and previous qualifications. The posting requires 500 hours P1 in an operational fast-jet aircraft and is onsite at RAF Marham 5 days per week, subject to the stated security and export-control eligibility conditions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- As part of the Integrated Training Centre instructor team, deliver high-standard training to F-35B Lightning pilots and maintain the highest instructional and training-delivery standards. Lead Lightning ground-school academic lectures and FAM-phase simulator sorties so pilots can progress from zero-to-solo on the Operational Conversion Unit syllabus. Assess pilot performance clearly, accurately and objectively
- produce written reports
- and design targeted remedial training. Support OCU and frontline squadron simulator operations through expert use of the Instructor Operator Station (IOS), ensuring safe, effective and mission-relevant synthetic training. Apply current frontline Lightning tactics and doctrine
- act as the subject-matter expert for assigned aircraft systems
- and own and maintain authoritative instructional and lecture material in line with ITC guidance. Deliver high-fidelity, pilot-specific synthetic training on the Full Mission Simulator (FMS) and Deployable Mission Rehearsal Trainer (DMRT) in the UK and on deployed operations, in accordance with UK Lightning syllabi. Provide technical and training advice to improve synthetic training devices, mission scenarios and tactics, meet UK sovereign Lightning training requirements and future-proof the system, while contributing to the development and refinement of training scenarios, tactics and mission profiles.
