About This Role
JetBlue is seeking a Director Inflight Base Excellence to lead its six Inflight bases and ensure consistent standards, service, crewmember engagement, and operational performance across the network. The role oversees base leadership teams, translates strategy into field execution, develops leaders and crewmembers, and partners with operational, safety, hospitality, and other business functions. It is a highly visible inflight leadership position requiring substantial time in the bases, frequent overnight travel, emergency availability, and qualification and currency as a JetBlue Inflight Crewmember.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Director partners with the Vice President Inflight Experience to lead JetBlue's six Inflight bases and ensure consistent delivery of standards, service expectations, crewmember engagement, and operational performance across the network. The role oversees base leadership teams and maintains a strong in-base presence through regular communication, visits, coaching, and observation with frontline leaders and crewmembers. Responsibilities include developing and overseeing strategies to improve base performance, crewmember experience, and service excellence
- providing leadership, development, and performance management for assigned base leaders
- and helping develop base leaders and crewmembers through engagement, growth, goal achievement, and succession planning. The Director partners with Inflight Experience, Planning & Operations, Safety, Hospitality Programs, and other business areas to maintain alignment, communication, and teamwork. The role ensures readiness for irregular operations, disruptions, and emergency events
- uses data and field feedback to identify trends and improve accountability, performance, consistency, and customer impact
- and supports recognition and hospitality programs. The Director also participates in Leadership Flying, including assisting during irregular operations, recognizing crewmembers for outstanding performance or dependability, and building relationships with frontline crewmembers. Additional duties may be assigned. The position requires at least three days each week in the bases and support during irregular operations and events. Crewmember responsibilities also include following JetBlue's Safety Management System, acting as a Safety Ambassador, reporting hazards and incidents through available reporting systems, adhering to FAA, OSHA, DOT, and company requirements, and supporting JetBlue's safety performance goals.
Requirements
- Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Business or a related field, or demonstrate the capability to perform the role with a high school diploma or GED and at least four years of related work experience. The position requires seven years of experience leading large, complex organizations and teams, knowledge of the regulatory aircraft environment including the FAA, and knowledge of other airline functions and their customer-experience touch points. The successful candidate must qualify and maintain currency as a JetBlue Inflight Crewmember, possess valid travel documents, and be able to travel in and out of the United States. Frequent overnight travel of 70% is expected, including presence in Inflight bases three days per week
- the candidate must also work flexible hours and respond to emergencies on short notice. Additional conditions include completing an assessment covering Customer Service, Dependability, and Safety Orientation, passing a pre-employment drug test, and being legally eligible to work in the United States. Authorization to work in the US is required, and the position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Preferred experience includes budget management, regional team leadership, project and initiative leadership with senior-level presentations, field-based operational leadership, customer and crewmember engagement or recognition programs, leadership development and succession planning, data-driven performance improvement, and cross-functional partnerships across operations, safety, training, labor, and hospitality. All crewmembers are expected to maintain regular attendance and punctuality, maintain a professional appearance, support JetBlue's safety culture and Safety Management System, report safety and security concerns, follow applicable laws and company policies, and uphold safety performance goals.
