About This Role
High Performance Aviation, LLC is seeking a Cirrus-qualified contract pilot and flight instructor to support a private aircraft owner with a Cirrus SR22 (G2) based at Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport (KCXO) in Conroe, Texas. This dual-purpose role combines primary flight instruction—including ground training, Private Pilot Certificate and later Instrument Rating instruction, Cirrus transition training, and checkride preparation—with pilot-in-command responsibility for the owner's personal and business travel, often structuring trips as instructional flights. The approximately 2–4-month contract / 1099 engagement targets 2–3 days per week, includes local training flights, day trips and multi-day itineraries with overnights, allows for occasional weekend flying and short-notice requests, and is estimated at 20–40 hours per month. The ideal candidate is patient, structured, professional, discreet and reliable, and comfortable with a syllabus as well as single-pilot IFR flying in Gulf Coast weather and busy Houston-area airspace; basing within approximately 1 hour of KCXO is strongly preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide the owner's primary flight instruction toward the Private Pilot Certificate, including ground instruction and checkride preparation, then begin Instrument Rating instruction following completion of the Private Pilot Certificate. Deliver a complete Cirrus transition program covering aircraft systems, avionics, autopilot management, CAPS decision-making, and Cirrus-specific emergency procedures. Act as pilot-in-command for owner-directed personal and business travel, including day trips and multi-day itineraries with overnights, and structure travel flights as instructional flights wherever practical so the owner logs applicable dual and cross-country experience. Maintain accurate training records, endorsements, and syllabus progress documentation. Conduct preflight planning, weather and risk assessment, and go/no-go decision-making
- perform repositioning and maintenance flights as needed
- and operate the aircraft in accordance with all applicable FARs, the POH/AFM, and the owner's insurance requirements.
Requirements
- Required qualifications include an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate for Airplane Single-Engine Land, an Airplane Instrument Rating, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor—Instrument (CFII) credentials, a current FAA Second-Class Medical Certificate or higher, a current flight review and instructor certificate, and compliance with all currency and recency requirements. The stated minimums are 1,000 hours total time, 300 hours of dual instruction given, 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, and 50 hours in Cirrus SR20/SR22 aircraft. Applicants must also have a valid driver's license and passport, reliable transportation to KCXO, and clean FAA and driving records with no accidents, incidents, or enforcement actions. Final minimums are subject to underwriter approval, and individual experience will be reviewed for qualification. Preferred experience includes a Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot (CSIP) or CTI designation
- significant SR22-specific and G2-generation experience
- Avidyne Entegra PFD/MFD proficiency
- recent primary instruction experience
- experience training aircraft owners in their own high-performance aircraft
- familiarity with Houston-area airspace, Gulf Coast weather, and summer density-altitude operations
- and prior Part 91 owner-flown or corporate flight-department experience. Basing within approximately 1 hour of KCXO is strongly preferred.
