About This Role
Jet Aviation is seeking a Chief Pilot to lead the safe, efficient, discreet, and professional operation of a private Gulfstream 600 flight department under FAR Part 91. The role combines active line flying with leadership of flight operations, crew scheduling, training, standardization, regulatory compliance, safety management, trip planning, and operational administration. The Chief Pilot will work closely with the Aviation Director, aircraft owner or representative, maintenance personnel, cabin crew, vendors, and aviation partners to deliver reliable domestic and international missions and a high standard of passenger service.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all flight activities conducted under FAR Part 91 while serving as Pilot in Command when required and maintaining currency and proficiency on the assigned aircraft. Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with FAA regulations, company policies, aircraft limitations, and operating procedures. Develop and improve flight-department policies, manuals, SOPs, and operating standards, and exercise sound judgment on weather, airport suitability, crew readiness, aircraft performance, international requirements, and mission risk. Manage crew scheduling, staffing, qualifications, rest, availability, and trip coverage
- oversee initial and recurrent training, checking, currency, medical certificates, and qualification records
- and maintain accurate operational documentation. Recruit, onboard, coach, mentor, and manage the performance of pilots while fostering a professional and collaborative crew culture. Coordinate with maintenance on aircraft availability, discrepancies, planning, and return-to-service decisions. Support domestic and international trip planning, including permits, customs, handling, security, ground transportation, and worldwide operating requirements. Participate in SMS activities, risk assessments, safety reporting, emergency planning, and investigations
- identify operational risks and recommend solutions supporting safety, reliability, service, and cost effectiveness. Contribute to staffing plans, training budgets, vendor and FAA relationships, and flight-department planning, while protecting owner and passenger confidentiality and supporting changing schedules, short-notice travel, weekends, holidays, extended trips, and international missions.
Requirements
- The role requires an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate with appropriate airplane category and class ratings, a current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate, at least 10 years of corporate or commercial aviation experience, and at least four years leading and supervising pilots. The successful candidate must hold the appropriate type rating for the assigned aircraft or be able to obtain it before assuming flight duties. The posting states that a minimum of 5,000 hours total flight time is preferred, together with substantial turbine and multi-engine experience
- corporate or business aviation Pilot in Command experience and large-cabin or comparable aircraft experience are also preferred. Candidates should have strong knowledge of FAR Part 91 operations, FAA regulations, flight planning, aircraft performance, international operations, aviation safety, crew management, and operational risk. The role also calls for excellent communication, organization, analytical and decision-making skills

Preferred qualifications include recent experience on the assigned aircraft type, extensive international and oceanic operations, corporate SMS and emergency-response experience, self-managed flight-department development, aviation budgeting and vendor management, and NBAA CAM or another relevant professional certification.
