About This Role
Freeman Jet Center is hiring a Chief Pilot in Abilene, Texas to oversee the professional standards of its flight crews and implement and maintain flight-operations policies and procedures in coordination with the Director of Operations. The position combines flying FJC Charter aircraft as Pilot-in-Command with office and operational leadership responsibilities, including crew qualification and currency oversight, aircraft and route support, MEL and SMS administration, and service to charter clients and owners. The role reports to the Director of Operations and may require nights, weekends, and holidays.
Duties & Responsibilities
- As Chief Pilot, the successful candidate supervises and manages flight crews, coordinates crew assignments, and assists the Director of Operations with operations policies and procedures. The role supports adding and removing aircraft from the FJC Charter certificate, confirming appropriate equipment, maintaining onboard documentation, aircraft and crew profiles, the aircraft weight-and-balance program, and flight-personnel reports. Responsibilities include verifying that crew members are qualified and current under FJC Charter Operations Specifications and applicable FARs
- checking aerodrome and route suitability
- distributing route, airport, NOTAM, NAVAID, company-policy, and regulatory information
- and acting for the certificate holder, including signing FAA correspondence and operations specifications. The Chief Pilot manages the MEL program, maintains PIC proficiency while complying with FARs, Operations Specifications, company policies and procedures, remains knowledgeable about applicable GOM provisions, participates actively and positively in the FJC Charter SMS program, and provides courteous, professional customer service to clients and owners.

Requirements
- Required qualifications include a minimum of 2,500 hours total flight time
- 1,200 hours PIC including 500 hours cross-country
- 100 hours night
- and 75 hours actual or simulated instrument time. Candidates must have at least 3 years of leadership or management experience, meet the qualifications required by CFR Part 119.71, hold a current and valid Pilot's Certificate with an English-proficient endorsement and a valid Commercial Instrument multi-engine rating, and be able to maintain a Second-Class Medical. A bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent years of professional aviation experience is required, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, teamwork in a high-stress, fast-paced environment, motivation, organization, attention to detail, computer proficiency, and knowledge of applicable Federal Aviation Regulations. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds and climb, kneel, squat, sit, and stand for extended periods
- read, write, and speak English
- provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- and have no FAA-regulation violations in the last five years. Chief Pilot experience, prior FAR Part 135 experience, and King Air 90/200 experience are highly desirable, with the latter listed as preferred. This is a DOT Safety Sensitive position requiring placement in a random drug-test pool, and the Chief Pilot may work nights, weekends, and holidays.
