About This Role
California Aeronautical University is seeking a part-time temporary CFI-Student Worker in Bakersfield to provide flight instruction and preflight and postflight briefings to students enrolled in Part 61/141 flight lab courses. The instructor supports private pilot, instrument, commercial, CFI, CFI-instrument, and multi-engine training in accordance with university syllabi, FAA-approved training outlines, Standard Operating Procedures, and Flight Information Files. The role is responsible for standardized instruction, student scheduling, progress toward course objectives, accurate records and endorsements, attendance reporting, student motivation, safety reporting, and maintaining a professional environment that supports safe and timely student completion.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide assigned flight students with preflight briefings, inflight instruction, postflight debriefings, and complete flight lessons for private pilot, instrument, commercial, CFI, CFI-instrument, and multi-engine courses. Standardize instruction in accordance with CAU Part 61/141 courses, training syllabi, FAA-approved lessons, University and ACS standards, SOPs, and FIFs. Schedule students so their flight activity supports term objectives and timely progress, manage course completion goals, maintain effective student relationships, motivate students to achieve flight-lab goals, and recommend corrective action plans when appropriate. Maintain accurate records covering currency, qualifications, lesson notes, attendance, endorsements, and other flight-related information

Requirements
- The instructor must perform duties ethically and professionally while maintaining high standards in education and supporting both student and university objectives. Responsibilities include complying with local, state, accreditation, federal, and university requirements
- maintaining the completeness, accuracy, and security of flight-operation records, documents, and reports
- following all company policies, procedures, SOPs, and Flight Information Files
- and completing accurate timekeeping. The role manages 1 to 10 assigned students, tracks progress against the academic term roadmap, and keeps flight scheduling paced toward course objectives, including a minimum of two activities per week. The CFI must deliver lessons to University and Airman Certification Standards, follow the academic syllabus and FAA-approved Training Course Outline lessons in Talon ETA, maintain student currency and qualification records, record lesson notes, report attendance, recommend corrective action plans, attend required team meetings, and report safety issues through the University Safety Management System (SMS) WBAT.
