About This Role
North Star Aviation is hiring a part-time Certified Flight Instructor in Mankato, Minnesota, to provide safe, high-quality flight and ground instruction and mentor students throughout their training. The instructor will promote a strong safety culture, comply with TSA procedures, FAA regulations and company policy, maintain accurate student records, and coordinate with schedulers to support progress toward flight-lab deadlines. The role requires CFI, CFI-I and MEI ratings, a minimum Second Class Medical, and the ability to meet the FAA Aviation English Language Standard.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide excellent flight instruction and ground instruction to students in a safe and comfortable environment, and provide mentorship throughout the learning process.
- Work with other instructors to overcome student-training challenges.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Transportation Security Administration procedures, Federal Aviation Regulations and North Star Aviation policy.
- Act as an ambassador for safety by following applicable FOM procedures, filing reports through the current safety-reporting system, attending periodic safety meetings and maintaining a general safety mindset.
- Keep student records orderly and accurate, periodically audit all records for students in the instructor's care, and correct errors in accordance with applicable North Star Aviation procedures.
- Coordinate with the assigned scheduler to support adequate student progress toward applicable flight-lab completion deadlines, recognizing that schedulers manage lesson quantity while flight instructors are responsible for lesson quality.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold at least a Second Class Medical and must have CFI, CFI-I and MEI ratings. They must be able to meet the Aviation English Language Standard (AELS) outlined by the FAA. Prior experience teaching in PA-28-161/181, PA-44-180 and G1000 aircraft or systems is preferred but not required.
