About This Role
California Aeronautical University is seeking an FAA-certificated Flight Instructor to provide flight instruction and ground training to CAU flight students pursuing private pilot and commercial pilot certification, as well as instrument ratings. The instructor will teach under CAU's Part 141/61 courses and syllabi, schedule students, conduct briefings and debriefings, document completed lessons, complete student endorsements, and submit weekly activity reports. The role also requires adherence to CAU regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, Flight Information Files, applicable regulations, and internal training standards while supporting a positive and professional learning environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Flight Instructor provides high-quality flight and ground training for CAU students working toward private pilot, commercial pilot, and instrument qualifications. Duties include scheduling flight students in the school's scheduling system
- briefing and debriefing students
- accurately recording completed training lessons
- completing student endorsements accurately and fully
- and processing weekly activity reports covering assigned student status for the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor or Chief Flight Instructor. The instructor must provide training in accordance with applicable Airman Certification Standards and internal standardization requirements, treat students fairly and respectfully, report potential training issues or conflicts to flight-instruction leadership, and maintain complete, accurate, and secure flight-operation records, documents, and reports. Additional responsibilities include compliance with local, state, accreditation, and federal regulations
- following company policies, CAU SOPs, and FIFs
- accurate timekeeping
- ethical and professional conduct
- supporting departmental projects
- and performing other assigned duties.
What We Offer
Compensation is an hourly wage of USD 28.The position is not eligible for bonuses, commissions, or other incentive pay as prohibited by federal law.
Requirements
- A flight instructor certificate is required, and the instructor must maintain currency and all pertinent experience requirements for the flight instruction provided to CAU students.
- Candidates should be able to work professionally with employees and students from diverse backgrounds, manage multiple priorities and unexpected situations under pressure, set and meet deadlines, and use Windows and Apple iOS systems.
- The position requires the ability to communicate effectively with students and personnel, teach in accordance with the FAA Fundamentals of Instruction and the FAA Aviation Instructor's Handbook to Airman Certification Standards, follow CAU internal Standard Operating Procedures, and present information effectively to Flight Operations senior leadership.
