About This Role
WestJet is hiring a safety-critical Cabin Crew Member based in YYC Calgary. The role combines guest service with strict compliance with WestJet and Transport Canada safety standards, including the operation of emergency equipment, safety procedures, onboard service, and sales. Candidates must meet English, customer-service, age, reach, travel, work-schedule, physical, security-clearance, and training requirements, while offering flexibility for reserve shifts and extended time away from home.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Cabin Crew Members ensure the safety, security, and comfort of all guests while enforcing WestJet Standard Operating Procedures and complying with regulatory standards.
- They operate safety and emergency equipment, including oxygen systems, aircraft doors, life rafts, evacuation slides, fire extinguishers, galley equipment, communication equipment, and lighting systems.
- They follow procedures to safely perform on time, uphold exceptional traveler service standards in flight and on the ground, complete service and sales in accordance with WestJet standards, anticipate and respond to traveler needs, and manage uncomfortable or challenging situations with the public.
- The role requires professionalism and poise while on duty or in the public eye, compliance with uniform and appearance standards, punctuality, reliability, multitasking, and readiness to be away from home for up to five nights at a time.
Requirements
- Candidates must communicate at an advanced level in written and spoken English and be proficient in reading English to complete training successfully.
- Two to three years of customer service experience is required, along with the ability to solve problems and make quick safety-related decisions, work in confined spaces, maintain a flexible schedule, and work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
- Applicants must be at least 19 years old, hold a valid passport, and, if they do not hold a Canadian passport, have a Canadian Permanent Resident card together with all visas required to perform the duties wherever WestJet operates.
- Candidates must be able to reach 204 cm without shoes while raising onto the balls of their feet, obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card, travel internationally without restrictions, lift 50 pounds from floor to waist and 22 pounds overhead, complete initial training without absence, work extended periods away from home, and be available for reserve shifts.
- Reserve crew must remain contactable and able to report to work within the prescribed period.
- Employment is conditional on passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test.
- Fluency in French and additional listed languages is preferred.
