About This Role
WestJet is hiring a Cabin Crew Member based at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Richmond, British Columbia. It is a safety-critical role that balances delivering WestJet's guest experience with maintaining compliance with company and Transport Canada safety standards. The role requires in-person work up to five days a week, availability around the clock including reserve shifts, and a willingness to be away from home for extended periods of up to five nights at a time.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety, security, and comfort of all guests by enforcing and following Standard Operating Procedures to maintain compliance with WestJet and Transport Canada regulatory requirements.
- Properly operate safety and emergency equipment such as oxygen systems, aircraft doors, life rafts, evacuation slides, fire extinguishers, galley equipment, communication equipment, and lighting systems, and follow all procedures to safely perform on time (SPOT).
- Uphold exceptional traveler service standards both inflight and on the ground, complete service and sales in accordance with WestJet service standards, anticipate and adhere to travelers' needs, and effectively manage uncomfortable or challenging situations with the public.
- Act as a true customer ambassador, carrying oneself with professionalism and poise while on duty or in the public eye, and adhere to uniform and appearance standards as prescribed under company policy.
- Be flexible to be away from home up to five nights at a time.
Requirements
- Must be able to communicate with an advanced level of written and spoken English, and be proficient in reading English as a condition of completing training. Must have a minimum of 2 years of customer service experience, be able to solve problems and make quick decisions in the interest of safety, crew, or traveler needs, be comfortable working in confined spaces, and be flexible to work a varied schedule. Must be 19 years of age or older and hold a current valid passport
- where a Canadian passport is not held, a Canadian Permanent Resident card (with all individual visas necessary to work as a Flight Attendant wherever WestJet operates) is required. Must be able to reach 204 cm without shoes with the ability to rise on the balls of the feet, lift 50 pounds from floor to waist and 22 pounds overhead, and travel internationally (United States and beyond) without restrictions. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card (requiring a 5-year traceable history, a clear criminal record, and Canadian citizenship or a Permanent Resident card). Must successfully complete an initial training program with no permitted absences, be ready and willing to work 24h/7d/365y at any hour or day, be available for reserve shifts and reachable to report within a prescribed time, travel away from home for extended periods, pass a WestJet Post Offer Employment Test, and pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test.
