About This Role
Porter Airlines is seeking a bilingual Flight Attendant for its Ottawa (YOW) base. The role is responsible for passenger safety, security, comfort and service while following Porter procedures and Transport Canada requirements. The assigned fleet type, either Dash 8 or E195-E2, will be determined by operational needs, and the successful candidate must complete full-time training before operating.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Manager, In-Flight Services, the Flight Attendant ensures the safety and security of all passengers and delivers friendly, attentive service to maintain passenger comfort. Responsibilities include following trained Standard Operating Procedures consistent with Transport Canada and Porter policies
- performing the physical duties of a flight attendant, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods and assisting passengers during emergencies
- tactfully managing unforeseen operational and passenger situations
- monitoring the general condition of the aircraft cabin and making adjustments to maintain passenger safety or improve the passenger experience

- complying with Porter’s uniform and grooming standards
- developing and maintaining positive relationships with team members
- and actively participating in Porter’s Safety Management System, including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations and understanding, complying with and promoting the Company Safety Policy. The role also requires concern for safety, teamwork, passenger and customer service, initiative, results focus, and open, honest and respectful communication with different audiences.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold a current, valid Canadian Passport, or a current, valid International Passport with a current US Crewmember Visa (C-1/D), and must be at least 19 years old at the time of employment.
- Candidates must have completed secondary school, demonstrate fluency in English and French, and have at least 2 years of previous experience working with the public in a customer service role.
- They must be able to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC), pass the company background screening process, meet the required medical standards including alcohol and drug testing, and satisfy all physical requirements of the position.
- Successful candidates must complete a 5-6 week full-time training program with 100% attendance and pass all written and practical assessments.
- Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills, a safety-sensitive mindset, and the ability to work unsupervised are essential.
- The role requires availability for a rotating reserve schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings and overnights, with schedules and days off awarded according to seniority through an online bidding system.
- Candidates must also be prepared to report to the assigned home base airport within two hours' notice for flying duties.
