About This Role
Kalitta Air, a major cargo operator, seeks an experienced Assistant Chief Pilot to manage day-to-day flight operations and pilot personnel at their Ypsilanti, Michigan headquarters. This leadership role reports directly to the Chief Pilot and involves crew management, regulatory compliance, hiring, and policy administration. Candidates must hold an FAA ATPL with minimum 2500 hours total time (4000 preferred), 1500 hours turbine time, and 500 hours PIC, with ability to upgrade to Captain on B747 or B777. The position requires a valid Class 1 Medical, current US Passport, security clearance eligibility, and prior experience as a Check Airman, Chief Pilot, or in Flight Operations at FAR 121/135 carriers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day functions of all pilots as directed by the Chief Pilot
- Ensure all flight crew members adhere to Kalitta's policies and procedures
- Prepare and distribute crew member instructions, bulletins, and manual information
- Coordinate with other departments for FAA, ICAO, and EASA regulatory compliance
- Assist Chief Pilot with interviewing and hiring pilots
- Act on behalf of Chief Pilot when required
- Perform line-qualified pilot duties in the cockpit
- Operate B747 in various meteorological conditions
Requirements
- FAA Multi-Engine Airline Transport Certificate (ATPL) or Restricted Multi-Engine Airline Pilot Certificate
- Minimum 2500 hours total flight time (4000 hours preferred)
- If Military background: minimum 1000 hours total time
- Minimum 1500 hours turbine (jet) flight time
- Minimum 500 hours PIC turbine (jet) flight time
- Current FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate
- FCC Radio License
- Current US Passport
- No restrictions on international travel
- Ability to successfully complete Kalitta Air Captain upgrade program on B747 or B777
- Pass 10-year security background check
- Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Ability to read, write, and understand English
- Previous experience as Check Airman, Assistant Chief Pilot, Chief Pilot, Fleet Manager, or Director of Operations at FAR 121/135 carrier preferred
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management or related field preferred
- Previous Boeing aircraft operating experience preferred
