About This Role
LeTourneau University is seeking an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor for its College of Aviation and Aeronautical Science in Longview, Texas. Reporting to the Chief Flight Instructor, the position monitors flight-training quality, conducts stage checks and flight instruction, supervises and mentors instructors, and helps lead the development of flight-training courses. The role supports the university's Aeronautical Science bachelor's program, which operates under 14 CFR Parts 141 and 61, and includes participation in university activities and events.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor the quality of flight training through stage checks, assigned flight instruction, and supervision of flight instructors, including some Saturday work.
- Mentor assigned flight instructors and maintain knowledge of current technologies applicable to the courses being taught.
- Provide leadership in developing and improving flight-training courses.
- Build relationships with students, faculty, and staff that encourage fulfillment of the mission and purpose of LeTourneau University and its School of Aviation and Aeronautical Science.
- Participate in normal college activities associated with a staff position, including convocations, chapels, and graduation activities.
- The role is year-round apart from scheduled vacation and paid holidays, with responsibilities primarily on weekdays but with possible evening and weekend flights and required attendance at evening and weekend events.

Requirements
- The minimum qualifications are a bachelor's degree, a Commercial Pilot Certificate for airplane single-engine land with an instrument rating, and a Certificated Flight Instructor certificate for airplane single-engine land and instrument airplane.
- Candidates must meet the 14 CFR Part 141 experience requirements to serve as an assistant chief instructor for Private, Commercial single-engine, and Instrument certificates and ratings, and must be able to work effectively with the flight-instructor staff and the LeTourneau University community.

- Desirable qualifications include a Commercial Pilot Certificate for airplane multi-engine land with an instrument rating, a multi-engine airplane CFI certificate, significant tailwheel experience, an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, experience creating leaders, 121/135 experience, aerobatic or upset-training experience, and an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificate.
