About This Role
Berry Aviation, Inc. is seeking a DHC-8 Captain to serve as a standby pilot in command (PIC) for overseas (OCONUS) Part 135 operations. The position is responsible for safe, efficient and compliant aircraft operation in austere international environments, with a requirement to respond to deployed tasking within 48 hours and support more than 120 deployed days per year at worldwide OCONUS locations. The captain plans and releases flights, verifies airworthiness and MEL status, conducts preflight risk assessments, executes assigned flights, leads CRM briefings and coordinates with on-site management on flight safety, maintenance, life support, customer and personnel matters.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the standby PIC for DHC-8 aircraft operating in OCONUS environments under Part 135. Plan assigned flights by obtaining the flight purpose, weather, operating procedures and special instructions
- prepare flight plans with consideration for altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities and navigational aids. Release each flight in accordance with FAR 135 guidelines and ensure all required documentation is aboard for legal and safe completion. Verify that required airworthiness inspections have been completed and that discrepancies have been corrected or properly deferred under the applicable MEL. Complete the aircraft preflight inspection and conduct a preflight risk assessment for each flight. Operate each assigned flight in accordance with schedules, routes and load manifests. Ensure all crewmembers practice CRM and are fully briefed on flight particulars and any changes to flight plans, passenger or cargo loads, aircraft condition or the operating environment. Communicate routinely with on-site management regarding safety of flight, aircraft maintenance, life support, customer concerns and personnel issues.
Requirements
- Required qualifications include an FAA multi-engine Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, current FAA first-class medical, a current U.S. passport with at least six months remaining at all times, 1,500 hours of PIC time, 500 hours of PIC multi-engine time, the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance, and a high school diploma. The standby pilot must maintain a 48-hour-or-less notification posture, be able to begin travel for deployed tasking within 48 hours of notification and be available for more than 120 deployed days per year at OCONUS locations worldwide. Preferred qualifications are 3,000 hours total time, 1,200 hours of multi-engine turbine time, aerial-delivery experience, NVG experience, a current active U.S. Secret clearance, at least one year as a FAR Part 135 pilot and at least one year of government-contracting experience in OCONUS austere environments or locations. Physical and deployment requirements include lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, performing pilot duties on flights up to 10 hours, using aircraft stairs and ladders, sitting for extended periods at the controls, working in confined aircraft environments and outdoors in varying extreme weather, traveling internationally and remaining deployed for extended periods. The pilot must comply with customer-specific medical, security and deployment requirements and should expect irregular schedules including nights, weekends, holidays and extended duty periods.
