About This Role
Berry Aviation is hiring a Captain / Pilot in Command (PIC) for DHC-8 aircraft operating in overseas (OCONUS) environments — including austere and international deployments in Africa — under 14 CFR Part 135. The Captain is responsible for the safe, efficient and regulation-compliant operation of the assigned aircraft, ensuring adherence to company policy, customer requirements and FAA regulations while supporting U.S. Government contract work in remote and demanding operating conditions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan assigned flights and obtain information on the purpose of each flight, weather, operating procedures and special instructions.
- Prepare flight plans accounting for altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise-control data, airport facilities and navigational aids.
- Ensure every flight is released in accordance with FAR Part 135 and that all required documentation is aboard for legal, safe completion.
- Confirm required airworthiness inspections are complete and that any previous discrepancies are corrected or properly deferred per the aircraft MEL.
- Conduct preflight inspections and complete all preflight preparations, including a risk assessment for each flight.
- Operate flights in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, FAA regulations, approved flight plans and operational schedules.
- Ensure all crew members practice CRM and are fully briefed on flight particulars and any changes to plans, passenger or cargo loads, or the operating environment.
- Communicate safety-of-flight, compliance and airworthiness issues per Air Carrier manual policy and to on-site management in line with the contract Program Manager's expectations.
- Maintain accurate flight, aircraft and mission records, comply with the company Safety Management System (SMS) and reporting requirements, and participate in required training, proficiency checks and recurrent evaluations.
Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Multi-Engine Land rating
- current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
- current US passport with at least six months validity remaining
- minimum 1,500 hours Pilot in Command (PIC)
- minimum 500 hours multi-engine PIC
- and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- minimum 3,000 hours total flight time
- minimum 1,200 hours multi-engine turbine flight time
- previous DHC-8 experience
- previous Part 135 operational experience
- aerial delivery experience
- Night Vision Goggle (NVG) operations experience
- and experience supporting U.S. Government contracts in OCONUS or austere environments. The role requires thorough knowledge of FAA regulations and Part 135 operations, strong aeronautical decision-making and CRM/leadership skills, the ability to operate in austere and international environments, and physical ability to travel internationally, deploy for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds and fly duty periods of up to 10 hours.
