About This Role
Garmin is seeking an experienced Flight Test Pilot for their Salem, Oregon location to lead complex flight test programs on experimental aircraft. The role requires providing technical leadership in all aspects of flight testing, including developing test plans, acting as Pilot in Command during experimental flights, and coordinating with certification authorities. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, a Commercial Pilot Certificate, minimum 1,500 total flight hours with at least 200 hours of flight test experience, and deep knowledge of aircraft certification processes. This position offers the opportunity to mentor junior test pilots, work on cutting-edge avionics and systems integration projects, and contribute meaningfully to aircraft certification and safety.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as Pilot in Command for experimental aircraft with moderately significant changes to certified design
- Conduct complex, moderate-risk flight tests
- Act as Flight Test Project Lead for moderately complex projects
- Draft ground and flight test plans for complex test programs
- Define operational characteristics for systems under development and represent end user
- Maintain moderately complex test aircraft configurations and coordinate with engineering teams
- Analyze test data to verify system compliance with requirements
- Provide troubleshooting support for test aircraft and advanced avionics installations
- Identify, track, and resolve issues during flight test operations
- Author certification plans and flight manual documentation
- Communicate functional hazards and failure effects to safety analysis teams
- Work with certification authorities to resolve certification issues
- Revise and author new flight test procedures
- Mentor less experienced flight test pilots

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
- Cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0
- Commercial Pilot Certificate
- 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate
- Minimum 1,500 hours total flight time
- Minimum 200 Flight Test Hours
- Previous flight test experience required
- Proficient use of advanced engineering and flight test tools
- Advanced troubleshooting on complex avionics system installations
- Solid understanding of certification process and associated regulations
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
