About This Role
Draken is seeking an experienced BN-2 Islander Captain to serve as Senior Base Pilot in Northern Ireland, combining command experience with operational leadership and people management. The role involves day-to-day leadership of BN2T flying operations, serving as the principal operational authority for flight operations delivery at the base, and ensuring compliance with CAA/MAA regulations and company procedures. Candidates must hold a valid UK CPL(A) or ATPL(A) with Class 1 Medical, AUPRT, and MCC, with desirable experience of 1,000+ hours BN2 Islander PIC. This position offers genuine operational authority, clear accountability, and the opportunity to influence safety culture and operational standards while continuing to fly in a complex, regulated environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership of BN2T flying operations
- Act as the accountable lead for contracted service delivery at base level
- Operate as a BN2T Commander, demonstrating sound judgment and calm decision-making
- Maintain operational standards in line with Company Manuals, regulatory approvals, and SMS
- Promote effective TEM (Threat and Error Management), CRM (Crew Resource Management), and professional airmanship
- Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation activities
- Foster a Just Culture, encouraging open reporting and learning
- Ensure audit and inspection readiness, including timely closure of findings
- Liaise with Operations and Engineering to ensure aircraft serviceability and readiness
- Contribute to operational reviews, improvement initiatives, and bid support
- Lead, mentor, and develop base pilots
- Support recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and succession planning
- Brief and support pilots ensuring competency within regulatory and contractual constraints
Requirements
- Valid UK CPL(A) or ATPL(A) license
- Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate
- AUPRT (Airmanship, Use of Resources and Threat and Error Management) qualification
- MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation) qualification
- 1,000+ hours BN-2 Islander PIC (desirable)
- Experience with CAA and/or MAA regulatory frameworks (desirable)
- Background in commercial, government, or military aviation operations (desirable)
- Strong safety leadership and regulatory awareness
- Ability to operate effectively in complex, time-critical environments
- Professional communication skills with aircrew, engineers, customers, and leadership
