About This Role
Occidental Petroleum is seeking a Senior Aviation International Captain for its Houston-based Aviation group. The role conducts safe and efficient domestic and international flight operations and supports the continued development of flight crew members. Depending on the assignment, the captain serves as Pilot in Command or Second in Command, maintaining high standards of safety, passenger service, professionalism, crew resource management, judgment, emotional intelligence, regulatory compliance, and enterprise-focused teamwork.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The captain promotes Occidental's safety culture while delivering a high level of customer service and performs all duties in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Aircraft Flight Manual and Certificate of Airworthiness requirements, company policies, procedures, and standard aviation practices. The role serves as PIC or SIC for domestic and international operations, exercising appropriate operational authority and judgment

- communicates accurately and effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- and applies advanced knowledge of international operations, CFR requirements, ICAO Annexes, navigation procedures, and operational considerations. Responsibilities include maintaining expert knowledge of assigned aircraft systems, performance, regulations, operating procedures, navigation procedures, and company policies
- verifying aircraft airworthiness and the currency and onboard availability of required documentation, publications, and operational materials
- complying with crew duty and flight-time limitations
- and conducting thorough preflight and post-flight activities such as crew briefings, operational risk assessments, and coordination with maintenance and support functions. Additional responsibilities include safeguarding confidential information, building professional relationships with regulators, industry partners, and the aviation community, identifying continuous-improvement opportunities, supporting the Occidental Safety Management System through risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion, recommending departmental safety standards, preparing tactical plans, monitoring industry developments, recommending policies and equipment, serving on the Aviation Incident Management Team, contributing to departmental projects, setting annual SMART goals and development objectives, supporting an inclusive and collaborative team environment, upholding Occidental's core values, maintaining compliance with regulatory and Oxy training requirements, and performing other duties and special projects assigned by management.
Requirements
- Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- residence in or willingness to relocate to Houston, Texas
- at least five years of corporate or business aviation experience
- a valid Airline Transport Pilot certificate with a Gulfstream G650 and/or G280 type rating
- 5,000 hours of total flight time
- 3,000 hours of Pilot-in-Command time
- 2,500 hours of turbojet flight time
- and 1,500 hours of Pilot-in-Command time in multiengine aircraft. Candidates must also hold a current FAA First Class Medical Certificate, be proficient in spoken and written English, possess a Restricted FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit, valid driver's license, and valid passport with no travel restrictions. The role requires the ability to travel up to 75% of the time, lift and carry up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation, and use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Desired qualifications include at least five years supporting routine international flight operations, including operations within the Middle East.
