About This Role
Lockheed Martin is seeking an experienced Research Pilot for the U-2 aircraft based at Edwards Air Force Base, California. This is a permanent government contractor position supporting NASA operations, requiring extensive PIC experience on the U-2 and various other military/research aircraft. Candidates must be U.S. citizens capable of obtaining a Secret-level security clearance, hold a Commercial Pilot License with instrument and multi-engine ratings, and possess a minimum of 1,500 hours PIC time. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct full-time pilot duties on ER-2 (U-2) aircraft
  • Operate variety of NASA aircraft including Gulfstream III, Gulfstream IV, Beechcraft King Air, C-20A, F-18 A/B, F-15 B/D, RQ-4 Global Hawk, T-34C, TG-14
  • Perform pre-flight inspections and safety checks
  • Create and maintain briefings and statistical reporting
  • Provide direct support to NASA AFRC staff
  • Comply with all government and NASA operational procedures

Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Able to obtain and maintain Secret-level U.S. Security clearance
  • FAA Commercial Pilot License with instrument, multi-engine, and single-engine land ratings
  • Minimum 1,500 hours pilot in command (PIC) time
  • U-2 type rating required
  • Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university in engineering, physical science, life science, or mathematics
  • Valid U.S. passport through period of employment
  • COVID-19 vaccination required where permitted by applicable law
  • Must pass random drug screenings
  • Must pass NASA Flight Medical Certification
  • Able to obtain DoD SECRET security clearance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read technical manuals and safety instructions
  • Ability to write technical reports and relay data
  • Ability to perform shop math
  • Clear verbal communication skills
  • Preferred: 1,000+ hours U-2 experience and current U-2 pilot within past 2 years
  • Preferred: Formal military training with DD 214 or applicable civilian experience
