About This Role
Aery Aviation is hiring a Second-in-Command (SIC) to support the Pilot-in-Command in the safe and efficient operation of Learjet aircraft on company flights from its Newport News, VA (PHF / Corporate Office) base. The role is a business/corporate aviation flying position operating under FAA Part 91/135 rules, requiring adherence to all FAA regulations, company policies, the company safety management system, and industry best practices while delivering a professional, discreet experience to passengers. The SIC is expected to maintain high professionalism, situational awareness, and teamwork throughout every phase of flight.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Flight Operations: assist the PIC with all phases of flight planning and execution
- operate the aircraft in accordance with FAA regulations, aircraft limitations, and company procedures
- perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight duties, including inspections, checklist completion, and documentation
- monitor aircraft systems, weather, air traffic, and surroundings to support safe decision-making
- and maintain strong communication with the PIC, crew, dispatch, and ground personnel. Safety & Compliance: strictly adhere to the applicable FAA Part 91/135 regulations
- assist with maintaining aircraft readiness, including identifying and reporting maintenance needs
- ensure compliance with the company safety management system (SMS)
- and participate in required recurrent training, proficiency checks, and safety briefings. Customer Service: provide professional, courteous service to passengers and clients, and uphold confidentiality, discretion, and a polished corporate aviation presence.

Requirements
- Required (minimum qualifications): FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Multi-Engine Land (AMEL)
- FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate
- minimum 1,000 hours total flight time
- 1,000 hours multi-engine time
- instrument rating with demonstrated IFR proficiency
- ability to pass background, drug testing, and PRIA checks
- and a valid passport with the ability to travel internationally as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- a Learjet type rating (e.g., LR-60, LR-45, LR-35/36)
- previous Part 91 or 135 flight experience
- ATP certificate or ATP-CTP completion
- strong CRM, communication, and decision-making skills
- and experience in business or charter aviation. Desired competencies include a safety-focused mindset, strong situational awareness, excellent teamwork and communication, a professional customer-service presence, and the ability to adapt to changing schedules and operational needs.
