About This Role
TUI fly Germany seeks an experienced Head of Flight Operations to serve as AOC Nominated Person Flight Operations (NPFO) at their Langenhagen, Germany base. This management role oversees all flight operations for TUI's B737NG fleet, ensuring regulatory compliance, safety, and efficient operations. The successful candidate will be an active Captain with B737 command experience and extensive management background, along with deep knowledge of EU aviation regulations (particularly EU 965/2012) and safety management systems. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with predictable rosters, professional development opportunities, private medical insurance, and a competitive salary package. This is a leadership position requiring approximately 15 flight deck days per month plus significant administrative responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- General leadership and oversight of all flight operations implementation with focus on safe operations, flight safety, and efficient economic operations
- Coordinate all required activities for leadership and control of flight operations department
- Interface with internal and external customers and suppliers
- Monitor legal requirements for compliance changes and implement necessary measures
- Build and maintain close collaboration with regulatory authorities and oversight agencies
- Ensure all instructions and regulations comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements
- Manage risks up to and including level C within area of responsibility according to Safety Management Manual Section 3.3.7
- Identify organizational changes within the operation
- Develop KPIs and SPIs within area of responsibility
- Initiate corrective actions based on flight operations compliance monitoring
- Maintain administrative and functional control over all flight operations personnel
- Exercise professional and disciplinary leadership of staff
- Define, coordinate, and monitor all initial measures for new routes, aircraft type introductions, and crew/aircraft leasing arrangements
- Participate in AOC-wide projects and working groups
- Fulfill role as Nominated Person Flight Operations (NPFO) with legal responsibility to certifying authority

Requirements
- Active airline Captain with B737NG type rating as Pilot in Command
- Valid ATPL license
- Ability to maintain B737NG type rating currency through active flight operations
- Minimum 5 years management experience in comparable organization or function
- Multiple years office experience in international matrix environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of EU air operations regulations (EU 965/2012) and related procedures
- Extensive knowledge of Operations Manuals (OM A-D) and quality/safety management systems
- Knowledge of national, European, and international aviation regulations regarding Flight Operations
- Experience with aviation audits (IOSA and other safety/compliance audits)
- Strong safety and compliance orientation with ability to enforce standards consistently
- Experience in digitalization of operational processes and data-driven flight operations optimization
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with regulatory interfaces
- Analytical and structured working approach with prioritization ability in safety-critical situations
- Change and stakeholder management experience
- Conflict resolution and decision-making capability
- Knowledge of business economics, budget planning, and administration
- Fluent German and English (written and spoken) at high proficiency level
- ICAO Level 4+ English proficiency
- Willingness to work approximately 15 flight deck days per month
- Recognition approval from relevant aviation authority as NPFO
- Must pass leadership assessment center evaluation
- Must complete and pass recognition interview with aviation authority
- Selection process must comply with CAT.GEN.MPA 175(b) Commission Regulation (EU) 1042/2018
