Requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age at time of application
- High school graduate or GED (2+ years of college preferred)
- At least one year of customer service experience in service industry (retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service)
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and organized manner, loud enough to be heard in emergency
- Fluent in English (spoken, read, written, and understood)
- Proficiency in second language highly desirable (Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog)
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound
- Effectively communicate in high-stress situations (aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, turbulence)
- Professional appearance with excellent grooming standards
- Willing to follow uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines
- No tattoos permitted on head, hands, fingers, or neck (including back of neck, on/in/behind ear)
- Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, feet permitted if no larger than 3.5 x 2.24 inches or covered by uniform
- No offensive tattoos (violent, obscene, sexual, racist, weapons imagery)
- No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in mouth
- Able to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops)
- Valid passport in possession prior to application with minimum 18 months validity remaining
- Current physical possession of valid US or foreign passport book with applicable visas
- Eligible to travel globally without restrictions
- Able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (luggage to overhead bin, exit windows)
- Able to push and pull beverage cart up to 250 lbs
- Able to pass functional reach assessment with combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous) without shoes
- Able to sit in assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened
- Required to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in diligent and professional manner
- Legally authorized to work in United States
- Willing and able to work flexible schedule 24/7 operation (weekdays, weekends, holidays, scheduled/reserve days)
- Must successfully complete evacuation drill in water (pool) during training
- Willing and able to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, vision/hearing tests
- Able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens
- Must not use medical or recreational marijuana
- Able to pass 10-year background check including criminal history
- Background must not prohibit travel to/from anywhere United flies
- Must meet FAA and United Airlines hearing requirements (not greater than 40 dB hearing loss in better ear)
- Each eye must be 20/40 or better corrected for both far and near vision
- Must not have DWI/DUI convictions or probation within last 10 years without Canadian Temporary Resident Permit
- Valid US passport book or foreign passport book in good condition with 18+ months remaining validity at time of application
