About This Role
Wipaire's Fire Boss Chief Pilot leads Advanced Flight Training and Leasing (AFT&L) Fire Boss operations and training programs for the AT-802 and 802A Fire Boss aircraft and reports to the General Manager. The role combines flight instruction, pilot services and pilot-management oversight with responsibility for pilot qualifications, staffing availability, course curricula, service-quality standards and flight-safety programs. It also performs customer ferry and test-flight work, maintains operational currency, supports Fire Boss aircraft sales and coordinates contract resources and customer relationships while meeting applicable FAA regulations and customer needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Chief Pilot has overall responsibility for Advanced Flight Training and Leasing (AFT&L) Fire Boss operations and training programs.
- The role ensures departments and external customers have sufficient pilots, assigning work first to the Fire Boss Chief Pilot or an AFT&L pilot, then to internal secondary resources, and finally to contract resources.
- It develops and maintains aircraft-specific client training materials, including program syllabi, classroom PowerPoint presentations, computer-based training, reference handouts and simulator training programs, and establishes course curricula, service-quality standards and flight-safety programs.
- It trains Wipaire and AFT&L employees and customers on AT-802 and 802A Fire Boss aircraft by quoting and scheduling lessons and test flights, delivering ground training on aircraft systems and operation, amphibious-aircraft operations and aerial firefighting techniques, and providing flight instruction in aircraft characteristics, amphibious and seaplane operations, water scooping and dropping, and aerial firefighting.
- The role provides client endorsements, currency training, insurance check-outs, Flight Reviews and IPCs for personnel approved to fly for the company.
- It provides customer flight services, including ferrying aircraft from Wipaire or other locations to customer destinations, and maintains currency for Wipaire-owned or maintained aircraft and external-client aircraft.
- Flight and test work includes VFR and IFR compliance, filing instrument flight plans, coordination with air traffic control, ground crews and crew members, conducting evaluations at safe altitudes and in adverse weather, responding to and reporting emergencies and malfunctions, recording flight times, cycles, distances and fuel consumption in logbooks, testing aircraft released from maintenance or engineering test flight, checking passenger and cargo distribution and fuel for weight and balance, and completing required test-flight documentation.
- Administrative responsibilities include providing customer information and quotations, supporting Fire Boss aircraft sales with mission profiles and related information, coordinating contract resources with Human Resources, and maintaining long-term customer relationships.
