About This Role
NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center seeks an experienced Research Pilot to conduct full-time flight operations on the ER-2 (U-2) aircraft and other NASA research platforms including Gulfstream, King Air, F-18, F-15, and Global Hawk. This government contractor position at Edwards Air Force Base in California requires a minimum of 1,500 hours PIC experience, with preference for 1,000+ hours on U-2 aircraft. The role involves conducting scientific research sorties for NASA and its customers, with routine deployed operations both domestic and international. Compensation is $170,000-$185,000 annually, with excellent government benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, generous PTO, and tuition reimbursement through i3 (the employing contractor).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university in engineering, physical science, life science, or mathematics
- Valid FAA commercial pilot license with instrument, multiengine, and single engine land ratings
- Minimum 1,500 hours pilot in command (PIC)
- 1,000+ hours on U-2/ER-2 aircraft (highly desired)
- Current U-2 pilot within past five years (highly desired)
- Valid current US passport
- Formal military training or applicable civilian experience
- Pass random drug screenings
- Obtain DoD SECRET security clearance
- NASA Flight Medical Certification
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to lift and carry equipment
- Ability to tolerate deployed environments and extreme weather
- Ability to fly long missions up to 12 hours at high altitude
