About This Role
NV5 is seeking an Aircraft Captain to serve as Pilot in Command for remote aerial survey and geospatial missions. The Captain has final authority for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the aircraft, leading mission planning, crew coordination, operational risk management, client and air traffic coordination, and real-time decisions. The role is headquartered in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, with remote flexibility, and includes line operations as well as training and evaluating pilots on a 16-days-on, 12-days-off travel rotation. Missions support NV5 Geospatial services using digital, hyperspectral, thermal, and LiDAR topobathy sensors.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Flight line operations account for approximately 70% of the role.
- The Captain performs preflight and post-flight aircraft inspections, cleans the aircraft interior and exterior after each flight, conducts mission planning with aircraft performance calculations and weather interpretation, and coordinates ground support, air traffic control, and clients.
- The Captain works closely with the Sensor Operator to complete missions safely and efficiently, supervises vendor compliance for fueling and outsourced maintenance, moves aircraft into and out of hangars, reports aircraft and project status, and coordinates with mechanics to track and schedule maintenance on NV5 Geospatial aircraft.
- Additional flight-line responsibilities include ensuring aircraft airworthiness and safety, verifying FAA records, tracking personal currency and medical qualifications, maintaining current charts, publications, and manuals, and managing avionics downloads for chart services.
- The Captain must also comply with applicable ethical, legal, regulatory, company, and Safety Management System requirements.
- Company training accounts for approximately 20% and includes onboarding, third-party initial and recurrent aircraft training, internal initial operating experience, line-oriented flight training, remedial training, ground-training modules, pilot group training, and training mandated by clients.
- Administrative duties account for approximately 10% and include helping establish minimum employment qualifications, hiring procedures, salary and grade structures, performance-appraisal procedures, and dismissal procedures, while supporting employee development, department communication, morale, and periodic meetings.

Requirements
- Required qualifications include an FAA single- or multi-engine Commercial pilot license, at least one year of experience as Pilot in Command of an aircraft operated under CFR 14 Part 91, 135, or 121, a high school diploma or GED, 750 hours of total flight time, and an FAA Second Class Medical Certificate. Preferred qualifications include CFI, CFII, and MEI credentials
- at least one year of experience as a certified flight-instrument and/or multiengine instructor
- aerial survey experience
- experience in the King Air 200, Cessna Conquest II, or Cessna Caravan
- pressurized turbine and multiengine experience
- remote flying experience in Alaska or a similar environment
- and a bachelor's degree. The position also requires strong communication, organization, decision-making, and prioritization skills, the ability to work under pressure and independently or in a team, willingness to drive an aircraft tug, availability for early mornings and late evenings, and willingness to work outdoors in varying seasonal conditions. Travel may exceed 75%. Required minimums may be reduced for applicants from partner schools or with prior aerial survey experience.
