About This Role
Occidental Petroleum is seeking an experienced Captain for its Houston-based Aviation department. Depending on assigned responsibilities, the Captain may serve as Pilot in Command or Second in Command and is responsible for safe, compliant, efficient, and customer-focused flight operations. When acting as Pilot Flying, the Captain works with the Co-captain as Pilot Monitoring, while a Captain serving as PIC retains ultimate authority over the aircraft's operation. The role combines flight planning, aircraft and crew readiness, operational oversight, safety leadership, regulatory compliance, passenger service, and participation in department-wide safety and performance initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote Occidental's safety culture while providing a high level of customer service, and conduct all duties in compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, the Aircraft Flight Manual, Certificate of Airworthiness requirements, company policies, standard operating procedures, and accepted aviation practices. Protect sensitive company information and represent Occidental with a neat, professional appearance and positive attitude. Take responsibility for planning assigned flights, including reviewing schedules, itineraries, passengers, cargo, and special requirements
- checking current and forecast weather for departure, alternates, the route, destination, and arrival alternate
- calculating required fuel
- preparing and filing flight plans
- coordinating catering and commissary needs with the Flight Technician when applicable
- calculating departure and landing weight-and-balance data within Aircraft Flight Manual limits
- and coordinating with maintenance to confirm the assigned aircraft's status. Ensure aircraft equipment, documents, publications, and databases are onboard and current
- coordinate required security arrangements
- conduct interior and exterior preflight inspections to verify airworthiness and service status
- and conduct preflight and post-flight briefings with assigned crewmembers. Maintain detailed knowledge of the assigned aircraft type, including systems and performance, regulations, operating and navigation procedures, NOTAMs, and company policies. Keep pilot certificates, SIC qualifications, the FAA First Class Medical Certificate, and recurrent training current. Coordinate aircraft servicing at intermediate stops with the Flight Technician or Cabin Safety Attendant. Participate in department projects and other duties assigned by the Department Manager, establish annual S.M.A.R.T. and personal development goals through Occidental's Performance Management System, actively participate in the Flights department's Safety Management System, remain fully compliant with regulatory and OXY training programs, complete work with minimal supervision, and contribute effectively to an inclusive team environment.
Requirements
- Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
- residence in or willingness to relocate to Houston, Texas
- at least five years of aviation flight-operations experience
- a valid Airline Transport Pilot Rating with an EMB170-specific type rating
- a valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate submitted before onboarding
- English proficiency
- a Restricted FCC Radio Telephone Operator's Permit
- a valid automobile driver's license
- a valid passport with no restrictions
- at least 3,000 hours of total flight time
- at least 500 hours as Pilot in Command
- and at least 500 hours as Pilot in Command of multiengine aircraft. Desired qualifications are FAA 14 CFR Part 125 operational experience and at least three years of corporate aviation experience.
