About This Role
Wasaya Airways LP is seeking a full-time Assistant Chief Pilot based in Thunder Bay (YQT) to assist the Chief Pilot(s) with management of the company's flight operations. The position combines flight-operations leadership with standards and policy development, crew-training support, regulatory and SMS compliance, aerodrome and route assessment, pilot supervision, flight-safety investigations, recruitment and discipline processes, and line checks or flight duties when required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Assistant Chief Pilot assists the Chief Pilot(s) in managing Wasaya Airways' flight operations. Responsibilities include fostering a healthy working environment and positive workplace climate
- performing and upholding Wasaya's Customer Care Commitments for internal and external customers
- completing flight-operations duties assigned by the Chief Pilot or Director of Flight Operations
- developing and maintaining standard operating procedures and policies
- assisting with the development and implementation of all required approved flight-crew training programs
- drafting, issuing, and managing pilot compliance with directives and notices to flight crews, including compliance with CARS and additional regulatory obligations
- determining the operational suitability and requirements of all company-served aerodromes and routes
- initiating and distributing SMS reports concerning flight crews and their related compliance with company policies
- exercising administrative, managerial, and supervisory control over pilots
- monitoring pilot performance
- participating in the interviewing, hiring, and termination processes for flight crew
- liaising with company departments and outside agencies
- performing disciplinary actions under Company Policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- assisting with assigned flight-safety accident and incident investigations
- performing line checks and flight duties as required
- and carrying out any other flight-operations duties required.
Requirements
- Applicants must have graduated from an aviation college degree or diploma program and have two-crew, multi-engine turbine experience, experience with a Flight Management System (FMS) and/or glass cockpit, experience in Northern Ontario flight operations, and previous aviation supervisory or training experience.
- The position requires an ATPL, valid IFR, valid Category 1, and a current PPC or the ability to obtain a PPC on an aircraft currently operated by Wasaya Airways.
- Candidates must be able to work in a team environment and unsupervised, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, plan and organize the activities of others, maintain accurate and confidential records, and use computers effectively, with MS Office preferred, as well as the internet and email.
- They must deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times and have a strong understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards.
