About This Role
Sterling Flight Training is seeking an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor to join their FAR Part 141 and Part 61 flight training school based in Tallahassee, Florida. This is a leadership position at a respected, well-funded flight training organization with a culture of quality, community, and value in general aviation education. The ideal candidate will hold a Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot certificate with ASEL, AMEL, and Instrument ratings including CFII, plus a minimum of 1000 hours pilot-in-command experience and demonstrated flight instructor experience. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reports to the Chief Instructor
  • Certify each student's training record, graduation certificate, stage checks, and end-of-course test reports
  • Recommend students for course completion
  • Ensure each certificated flight instructor (CFI) passes an initial proficiency check in each type of aircraft before instructing
  • Ensure each instructor passes a recurrent proficiency check every 12 calendar months
  • Ensure each student accomplishes required stage checks and end-of-course tests per approved training course
  • Oversee flight training operations and maintain training standards

Requirements
  • Hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
  • ASEL (Single-Engine Land), AMEL (Multi-Engine Land), and Instrument ratings
  • CFII (Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument) in Single/Multi-Engine Land
  • Minimum 1000 hours as Pilot in Command
  • Minimum 50 hours of flight time under actual or simulated instrument conditions
  • Instrument flight instructor experience (CFII or military equivalent): at least 1 year and 125 flight hours, OR 200 flight hours of instrument instruction given
  • Flight training experience (CFI or military equivalent): at least 1.5 years and 500 flight hours, OR 750 flight hours of flight instruction given
  • Six months of experience as a ground school instructor at a certified pilot school
  • Pass a knowledge test on teaching methods covering AIM, FAR Parts 61/91/141, and course completion standards
  • Pass a proficiency test on instructional skills and ability to train students on flight procedures and maneuvers
  • Meet all FAR 141.36 requirements for recreational, private, commercial, multi-engine, and instrument instructor certification
